Amateur Unlimited contender Hydie McAlister, Hempstead, Tex., showed her Dual Smart Rey gelding, Dual Smart Scoot, to the 219-point high score for Friday, December 4, the third day of the 2020 NCHA Futurity Amateur/Amateur Unlimited go-round. Dual Smart Scoot had placed ninth in the Open Limited Finals with Garrett Hampton, on November 30.
Bobby Kay Davis, the high-scoring rider with 219.5 points after three days of competition as an Unlimited entry riding on Just U N Me Baby, showed her Metallic Cat gelding again on Friday, to score 218.5 points as an Amateur entry. While Julie McBurney, a leading contender with 219 points as an Unlimited entry on Wednesday with Fifty Shadz Of Rey, scored 218 points on Friday riding Jensie, by Bet Hesa Cat.
Unlimited Amateur entry John Brengard, Paragould, Ark., posted Friday’s third-highest score, 217.5 points, aboard Huntin Smooth Cash, by Reyzin The Cash.
Hydie McAlister, NCHA earner of $163,494 and a successful Amateur and Non-Pro limited age event finalist, placed fourth in the 2014 NCHA Derby Unlimited Amateur and fifth in the Non-Pro Limited on Amens Smooth Freckle LTE $39,703, by Smooth As A Cat. She also showed Kual CD LTE $101,954, by High Brow CD, to place third in the 2014 NCHA Derby Amateur and ninth in the Amateur Unlimited. McAlister was an NCHA Futurity Unlimited Amateur Semi-Finalist in 2018, as well, aboard Short Kit Kat, by Kit Kat Sugar.
Dual Smart Scoot, bred by Michelle Bishop, is out of Smart Lil Trav, an unshown full sister to Travs Scooter LTE $221,566, winner of the 2006 NCHA Non-Pro Futurity and reserve champion of the 2007 NCHA Non-Pro Derby under Matt Miller.
John Brengard, the NCHA earner of $238,850, was a 2014 NCHA Futurity Amateur finalist aboard Shez Dualin CD LTE $44,331, by High Brow CD. He also won the 2014 NCHA Classic Challenge Amateur Unlimited, as well as two other major Amateur championships on Smooth As A Huntress LTE $90,277. Smooth As A Huntress is the dam of Huntin Smooth Cash, as well as Reyzin Benjamins, a 2020 NCHA Futurity Open Limited finalist (10 tie) with Tyler Merrill.
