Verlie Doing scored 220  on Candy Man (U) to win the 4YO Non-Pro

Verlie Doing claims Southern Futurity Non-Pro title 

 

Verlie Doing, Conway, Mo., scored 220 points on Candy Man (U), by Kit Kat Sugar, to win the 2020 Southern Futurity 4-year-old Non-Pro championship, in Jackson, Miss. on October 30.

Bill Cowan, Ardmore, Okla., showing Sweett Chaos, by Catty Hawk, scored 219.0 points for the reserve championhip, while Blakley Simoneaux, Boligee, Ala., placed third with 217.5 points on When I Move I Groove, by Metallic Cat.

Verlie Doing, the NCHA earner of $45,207, most recently won the 2019 Brazos Bash Non-Pro Limited on Secreytariat LTE $94,453, who was also shown by Salvador Cabral to win the 2018 Southern 3-Year-Old Open Limited Futurity, as well as 2018 Open Limited championships in the Brazos Bash, the West Texas Futurity, and the 2019 Idaho Futurity.

Salvador Cabral, Jacksboro, Tex., also owns Candy Man (U) LTE $70,488, an unregistered gelding out of Cotton Candy (DNA) LTE $4,387, the dam of four earners of $410,124, including That Sly Bob LTE $202,195, Candy Girl (U) LTE $89,406, and Cotton Cat (DNA) LTE $48,035, all sired by That Sly Cat.

Candy Man (U) also won Open Intermediate championships at last year’s Pacific Coast Futurity and this year’s Cotton Stakes with Cabral.

Sweett Chaos LTE $34,422 is owned by Bill Cowan of Ardmore, Okla., who bred the Catty Hawk mare out of Gar Bella Lena LTE $84,955, a finalist in seven major Non-Pro aged events with Bill and Michelle Cowan, and a Southern Classic Open finalist with Sean Flynn. Gar Bella Lena has produced five earners of $286,239, including Catty Bluz LTE $133,080, Catty Minx LTE $47,548, and Catty Duals LTE $46,462.

Sweett Chaos and Bill Cowan won the Non-Pro Intermediate at last summer’s NCHA Derby and was a finalist on her this year at The Non-Pro Cutting and the West Texas Derby.

Bill Cowan, the NCHA Non-Pro Hall of Fame earner of $983,686, won the 2008 NCHA Futurity Non-Pro Ltd on Catty Hawk.

Blakley Simoneaux, the NCHA Non-Pro Hall of Fame earner of $766,359, won the Amateur Unlimited and Non-Pro Limited championships at the 2014 Southern Futurity riding One Time Jazz LTE $36,998.

When I Move I Groove LTE $27,702, a Metallic Cat gelding bred by Kathleen Moore, Madill, Okla., is out of the Dual Pep daughter Sarenadual LTE $174,153, winner of the 2012 NCHA Classic Challenge and the 2013 AQHA World Show Senior Cutting with James Payne. Sarenadual has produced 6 earners of $220,759, including Dangerous Cat LTE $79,171 and Badazz Cat LTE $66,794.

When I Move I Groove was a 2019 NCHA Futurity Open Semi-Finalist under James Payne, as well as a 2020 Bonanza Cutting Non-Pro finalist with Blakley Simoneaux. 

The Southern Futurity continues through Oct. 31.
