Madalyn Colgrove, Boligee, Ala., showed Bama Jelly, by Bamacat, to a 225-point championship win worth $9,394, in the 5/6 Non-Pro Classic at the Southern Futurity, in Jackson, Miss., on October 29.
Ty Moore, Madill, Okla., riding Summer Time Fun, by Metallic Cat, scored 222 points and earned $7,650 for the reserve championship, while Missy Etheridge, Corinth, Miss., placed third and earned $5,907 on Metallic Royal Mate, by Metallic Cat.
Bama Jelly LTE $206,030 won the Open division of the Southern Classic this week with Austin Shepard, along with Open championships at Arbuckle Mountain, Augusta, and this year’s NCHA Eastern National Championships.
Five-year-old Bama Jelly, bred and owned by Madalyn Colgrove, is out of Wood She Be Neat LTE $27,600, by Nitas Wood. An NCHA Super Stakes Classic finalist with Colgrove in 2014, Wood She Be Neat has produced three earners of $225,737.
Madalyn Colgrove is the NCHA earner of $711,258.
Summer Time Fun LTE $144,892, bred by Ty Moore and owned by his aunt, Kathleen Moore of Madill, Okla., is a 5-year-old mare out of Hey Georgy Girl LTE $130,829, by Wild Thing DNA.
Hey Georgy Girl and Ty Moore won Amateur championships at the 2008 Non-Pro, the 2007 South Point Winter Championship, and the 2008 West Texas Classic. The mare has produced 12 earners of $535,522, including Let Georgie Do It LTE $146,017.
Ty Moore is the NCHA Non-Pro Hall of Fame earner of $1,205,647.
Six-year-old Metallic Royal Mate LTE $160,858, bred by J H Nail Ranch and owned by Belle Terre Ranch, Corinth, Miss., is out of the Smart Mate daughter Royal Red Rinpoche LTE $32,719, who was an Open finalist with Kathy Daughn at the 2003 NCHA Super Stakes and has produced five earners of $183,970.
Metallic Royal Mate was a 2020 NCHA Classic Challenge Open finalist under Rodrigo Taboga, as well as a Non-Pro finalist with Missy Etheridge, and won the 2020 West Texas Open Limited Classic with Taboga.
Missy Etheridge is the NCHA earner of $464,075.
The Southern Futurity continues through Oct. 31.
