Jaco Messenger wins PCCHA Amateur Cutting Stakes

Jaco Messenger and Sneakinarountheboon scored 219.5 points to win the 2020 Amateur Cutting Stakes championship and $9,500 at the 2020 PCCHA Holy Cow Performance Horses Futurity, on October 10, in Las Vegas. Marcos Chocron-Arocha and Looks Like Foxie scored 219 points for the reserve championship and $7,500.

Jaco Messenger, Woodward, Okla., the NCHA earner of $12,261, also won the PCCHA Amateur Intermediate Stakes and $5,323, as well as the Brazos Bash 4-Year-Old Amateur championship in September, on Sneakinarountheboon.

Owned by Mark Messenger, Woodward, Okla., and bred by Durango Performance Horses, Sneakinarountheboon LTE $18,670, by Once In A Blu Boon, is out of Smooth Sneakin LTE $73,716, by Smooth As A Cat. Winner of the 2012 South Point Non-Pro Derby with Dustin Adams, Smooth Sneakin, has produced three earners of $104,030, including Sneakish LTE $74,380, winner of the 2017 NCHA Futurity Non-Pro Limited with Ali Good.

Marcos Chocron-Arocha, Doral, Fla., the NCHA earner of $9,008, won the West Texas Futurity 4-year-old Amateur Limited riding Looks Like Foxie this past August. The pair placed third in the Brazos Bash Amateur Derby this September, as well.

Bred by Glade Knight, Weatherford, Tex., Looks Like Foxie LTE $16,490, by Dual Smart Rey, is out of Foxie Cat LTE $72,034, by That Sly Cat. Foxie Cat was an Open finalist in eight major aged events, including the Cattlemen’s Derby and the Brazos Bash, with John Mitchell.

Ravi Tumber scores 223 for PCCHA win

Ravi Tumber and Steel Betty scored 223 points to win the Amateur 5/6 Classic Challenge championship and $8,500. Corrie Rousey, riding Dual Prime Time, scored 219.5 points to earn the reserve championship and $7,250.

Ravi Tumber, Winters, Calif., the NCHA earner of $44,689, also won both the 2020 and 2019 Pacific Coast Futurity Amateur Intermediate divisions riding Steel Betty LTE $99,336. Earlier this fall, the 6-year-old Metallic Cat daughter also won the 5/6-year-old El Rancho Classic Open and the Utah Classic with Monty Buntin.

Bred by Linda Holmes, Longmont, Colo., Steel Betty is out of out of the Stylish Rey daughter Betty Greyble LTE $50,156, who was a Breeders Invitational Open finalist with Lloyd Cox and a Western States Non Pro champion under Holmes. Betty Greyble has produced three earners of $136,682, including Princess Betty Rey LTE $31,586, by One Time Royalty.

Corrie Rousey, Weatherford, Tex., the NCHA earner of $135,568, won the Augusta Classic Amateur and Amateur Intermediate earlier this year with Dual Prime Time, and has been a 2020 Amateur finalist in the NCHA Classic Challenge, the Brazos Bash and the West Texas Futurity on both Dual Prime Time and Sweet Memoreyz LTE $39,703, by Kit Kat Sugar.

Dual Prime Time LTE $145,064, a 6-year-old gelding by Dual Rey, was bred by Jerry Durant, Weatherford, Tex., out of Prime Time Kat LTE $127,428, who was an Open finalist in the NCHA Derby and NCHA Super Stakes Classic with Clint Allen. Prime Time Kat has produced five earners of $269,228, including Sweet Lil Prime Time LTE $92,342, by Sweet Lil Pepto.

Sherry Stryker claims PCCHA Amateur Futurity

Sherry Stryker, riding Kit Kat Kangaroo, scored 218 points to win $5,000 and the Futurity Amateur championship. Stephen Terrell, showing Shades Of Metal, scored 217 points for the reserve championship and $4,000.

The NCHA earner of $22,178, Sherry Stryker, Loomis, Calif., also won the 2020 PCCHA Amateur Limited on Kit Kat Kangaroo, and placed third  in the 2019 PCCHA Amateur Limited Classic Challenge aboard SDP Gene Marker LTE $32,721, by Hydrive Cat.

Kit Kat Kangaroo LTE $27,546, by Kit Kat Sugar, was bred by Mel Turner, Millsap, Tex., out of the Smart Lena Boon daughter My Other Toys A Car LTE $116,300, dam of nine earners of $320,454, including the Metallic Cat geldings Crispy Kreme LTE $133,536 and Cheap Son Glasses LTE $67,831.

Kit Kat Kangaroo won the Cascades Open Futurity and was a PCCHA Futurity Open finalist under Monty Buntin.

Stephen Terrell, Phoenix, Ariz., the NCHA earner of $82,453, also won the 2020 Amateur Intermediate division, and was Amateur reserve champion of the 2017 PCCHA Derby Classic Challenge riding Wild Little Hughes LTE $29,225, by Thomas E Hughes. 

Shades Of Metal LTE $9,449, sired by Metallic Cat and owned by KKR Revocable Trust of Scottsdale, Ariz., was bred by Tom and Hilary Watson, Overland Park, Kan., and is the first performer out of Shady Lil CD LTE $139,748, by High Brow CD. Shades Of Metal was reserve champion of both the Amateur and Amateur Intermediate divisions of the Pacific Coast Futurity.
