Jeff Barnes wins El Rancho Non-Pro Classic

 

Metallic Legacy and Jeff Barnes, Wilton, Calif., scored 222 points to win the 5/6-year-old Non-Pro finals at the El Rancho Futurity in Rancho Murieta, Calif., on Friday, September 11. Tessie Cat and Katie Young, Sebastopol, Calif., posted 219 for reserve, while Cougars Diesel and Bill Lacy, Crested Butte, Colo., marked 216 points for third.

Non-Pro Hall of Fame inductee Jeff Barnes has NCHA earnings of $578,369, including championship wins in over 13 West Coast major events, as well as the Non-Pro reserve championship of the NCHA Super Stakes on Spookys Cash. In addition, Barnes bred Spookys Smarty Pants LTE $230,280, reserve champion of the 2002 NCHA Open Futurity under Gary Gonsalves, who showed Barnes-bred Spookys Cash LTE $284,313, to place fourth in the 2000 NCHA Open Futurity.

Five-year-old Metallic Legacy LTE $71,106 is a Metallic Cat daughter. She was bred by Speas Farms, Elkhart, Iowa, out of the Docs Stylish Oak daughter Docs Stylish Legacy, dam of six earners of $238,700, including Stylish And Smooth LTE $81,907, a three-quarter brother to Metallic Legacy.

Metallic Legacy was reserve champion of the 2018 PCCHA Open Futurity under Gary Gonsalves, and most recently won the 2020 PCCHA Open Spring Roundup with Brent Erickson, and was an Open finalist with Erickson in the 2020 El Rancho Open Classic, as well.

Katie Young, with NCHA earnings of $366,920, includes the 2010 and 2013 PCCHA 3-Year-Old Futurity Non-Pro championship wins on For Instance and Copper Cat, as well as the 2012 PCCHA Derby Non-Pro Ltd Classic on For Instance, among her championship wins.

Tessie Cat LTE $36,452 and Young won the Non-Pro and Limited Non-Pro divisions of the PCCHA Futurity in 2018. Five-year-old Tessie Cat, by High Brow CD, was bred by Young out of Travalen Tessie LTE $26,392, by Travalena, and has produced four earners of $273,664, including For Instance LTE $141,208 and Magical Travaler LTE $51,245.

Cougars Diesel LTE $154,437, owned by Bill & Catherine Lacy of Crested Butte, Colo., is a 6-year-old High Brow Cougar gelding bred by Karen Griffin, Bellingham, Wash., out of Miss Remanita, by Mr Peponita Flo. Miss Remanita has produced 8 earners of $445,272, including KG Fair Dinkim LTE $64,392, Remanitas Alegria LTE $80,918, and Tip Toe N Scoot LTE $53,164.

Cougars Diesel and Bill Lacy won the PCCHA Derby Non-Pro in 2018. Lacy, the NCHA Non-Pro Hall of Fame earner of $916,130, has major wins in the MillionHeir Classic, the NCHA World Series at El Rancho, as well as the PCCHA Futurity and Derby.

The 2020 El Rancho Futurity continues through Sept. 13.
