The 2020 Idaho CHA Futurity, at Idaho Horse Park in Nampa, concluded its 10-day agenda on August 30, with a full slate of Non-Pro and Amateur working finals.

Non-Pro 4-Year-Old Derby
Janet Westfall, Los Olivos, Calif., was winner of the Derby 4-Year-Old with 217 points on Sugarlesss LTE $26,061, a homegrown Kit Kat Sugar gelding, who her husband, Russ, had shown to place twelfth in the Open Finals.  Sugarlesss is out of the CD Royal daughter Lil Bit Reckless LTE $231,124, who won the 2010 Idaho Futurity 5/6 Open Classic under Russ Westfall, while Janet claimed reserve in the Non-Pro Finals.

Mia Webster, Portland, Ore., scored 216.5 points to claim reserve on the Catty Hawk gelding Catty Look, 2020 PCCHA Spring Roundup Open Derby Champion and 2020 Cascades Open Derby reserve champion under Morgan Cromer. Catty Look LTE $25,190, bred by Cowan Ranch, Ardmore, Okla., is out of 1999 NCHA Derby and Abilene Spectacular Open champion Smart Lookin Hi Brow LTE $216,395, dam of earners of over $475,000.

Webster and Catty Look also topped the Derby Non-Pro $200,000 Limited entries, and were second to Westfall and Sugarlesss in the Gelding division. Janet Westfall is the NCHA earner of $1,361,608; Mia Webster is the earner of $120,237.

Amateur 4-Year-Old Derby Unlimited Finals and $50,000 Amateur
Julie Sandford, Orange, Calif., scored 217 points on WR This Playgunsmart to win the Amateur Unlimited championship, while Charlene Lane, Lancaster, Calif., was reserve champion with 216 points on High Cattin Dual Rey.

Bred by  J.T. Bell,  Millarvile, Alberta, Can., WR This Playgunsmart, by WR This Cats Smart, placed tenth in the 2019 NCHA Futurity Amateur Unlimited with Sanford, the NCHA earner of  $142,928, and was Open reserve champion of the 2020 PCCHA Spring Roundup under Monty Buntin.

Charlene Lane, the NCHA earner of $110,393, and High Cattin Dual Rey, by Dual Smart Rey, also scored 215 points to win the 4-Year-Old Derby $50,000 Amateur Finals, where Erica Neff, Spanish Fork, Utah, claimed reserve with 208 points aboard Thee One From Bama, by Bamacat.

Non-Pro 5/6-Year-Old Classic
Elizabeth Quirk, Denham Springs, La., the NCHA Non-Pro Hall of Fame earner of $1,072,671, and Jessica Gonsalves, Millsap, Tex., the NCHA earner of $325,961.93 tied with 219 points as co-champions of the Non-Pro Classic and winners of the Gelding division. Quirk rode 5-year-old Dressedin Smartstyle, who she had shown to win the 2019 Idaho Non-Pro Derby. Gonsalves was aboard 5-year-old Mean Bean, who she had shown to win the 2020 Cattlemen’s Non-Pro Derby.

Dressedin Smartstyle LTE $171,259, bred by Double Dove Ranch, Fort Worth, Tex., and sired by Dual Smart Rey, was an NCHA Open Futurity and Super Stakes finalist under Adan Banuelos. He is one of eight individual earners of over $100,000 out of leading producer Stylish Play Lena LTE $264,474, including Smooth Talkin Style LTE $293,232, one of five earners of over $200,000.

Mean Bean $41,355, sired by Dual Rey and bred by Iron Rose Ranch, Carbondale, Colo., is a full brother to Reyzin The Cash LTE $274,376, out of the Miss N Cash daughter Spookys Cash LTE $284,313, dam of earners of over $700,000.

Amateur 5/6-Year-Old Classic Unlimited and $50,000 Amateur 5/6 Classic
Michelle Barnes, Lewiston, Idaho, the NCHA earner $541,939, scored a 223-point championship win riding Hotty Mc Hotty, by Hottish, in the 5/6 Classic Unlimited Amateur Finals. Reagan Glenn, Paso Robles, Calif., the NCHA earner of $90,798, and Debbie Day, Reno, Nev., earner of $528,694, tied for reserve with 219 points, respectively, riding 5-year-old Dual Smart Rey daughter Lottie Pearl LTE $50,760, and the 5-year-old Hottish gelding Hott Rox LTE $81,237.

On Tuesday, August 25, Hotty Mc Hotty won the Idaho Open 5/6 Classic with Morgan Cromer, following Barnes’ win on the gelding in the Cascades Futurity Non-Pro 5/6 Classic.

Kathleen Burr, Acton, Calif., the NCHA earner of $55,153, scored 218 points to win the $50,000 Amateur Classic aboard Stylish N Foxie, while Kathy Tomac, Cortez, Colo., the NCHA earner of $6,391 claimed reserve with 217 on Look Both Reys.

Kathleen Burr and 5-year-old Stylish N Foxie LTE $17,859 placed third earlier this year in the PCCHA Spring Roundup Amateur and had made the Amateur finals of three 2019 limited age events, including the Idaho Futurity, where they placed fourth.

This was the first limited age event finals for both Kathy Tomac, the NCHA earner of $6,391, and her Dual Smart Rey gelding Look Both Reys LTE $7,212, a half-brother to Watch Me Whip LTE $182,699.
