Double Zee, owned and bred by Kevin and Sydney Knight, Weatherford, Tex., scored 221 points under Tatum Rice for the reserve championship, while John Doe, owned by Jim Crawford, Lexington, Neb., scored 220 to place third under Kenny Platt.
Bred by Glenn and Debbie Drake, Napa, Calif., and sired by High Brow Cat, Starlights Lil Fox LTE $14,687 is a three-quarter sister to Lil Metallic Cat LTE $183,534, out of Lil Foxie Starlight, an unshown three-quarter sister to Peptos Stylish Miss LTE $296,598 and Miss Stylish Pepto LTE $216,005, out of Stylish And Foxie LTE $303,736.
Starlights Lil Fox came to the Idaho Futurity following a ninth-place finish in the Cascades Futurity. Monty Buntin, who showed Steel Betty as reserve champion of the Idaho 5/6 Open Classic on Tuesday, also showed Mama Don No, owned by Ross Hardester; Kit Kat Kangaroo, owned by Sherry Stryker; and Sanndee Cat Pepto, owned by Mike and Debra Flashman, to place fifth, sixth, and thirteenth in the 14-horse Idaho Futurity finals.
Double Zee, from the first crop of 2015 NCHA Derby Open champion Reyzin The Cash LTE $274,376, is a three-quarter brother to 2019 NCHA Open Horse of the Year and 2018 NCHA Open Futurity champion Crey Zee, also shown for the Knights by Tatum Rice.
Double Zee LTE $28,328, who also earned top money in the Idaho Futurity Gelding division, came to Idaho after winning the West Texas Open Futurity, and claiming top money in that Gelding division, as well.
John Doe earned his first official money in the Idaho CHA Futurity. The aptly named unregistered gelding is out of the Smart Little Lena daughter Miss Little Marie LTE $15,532, a half-sister to He Bea Cat LTE $401,384, co-champion of the 2012 NCHA Open Futurity and 2013 NCHA Open Horse of the Year. Jim Crawford bred Miss Little Marie and He Bea Cat, as well as the 15 earners of $1,057,815 out of Mae Bea Marie, by Freckles Playboy.
