Buntin and Kit Kat Kangaroo claims Cascades Futurity championship

Kit Kat Kangaroo claims Cascades Futurity championship

Kit Kat Kangaroo, sired by Kit Kat Sugar and shown by Monty Buntin for Sherry Stryker, Loomis, Calif., scored 222 points to win the 2020 Cascades Futurity on Thursday, August 13, at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds in Redmond, Ore. 

Red Right Hand, sired by Once In A Blu Boon and owned and shown by Russell Elrod, Terrebonne, Ore., scored 220 points for the reserve championship, while Buntin was aboard Mama Don No, sired by Smooth Talkin Style and owned by Ross Hardester, Santa Rosa, Calif., to score 218 points for third place. The top three finalists earned $10,000, $8,000, and $6,500, respectively, from a total purse of $48,564.

Bred by Mel Turner, Millsap, Tex., Kit Kat Kangaroo is the ninth money-earner out of the Smart Lena Boon daughter My Other Toys A Car LTE $116,300, dam of the earners of $294,789, including Crispy Creme LTE $125,417, reserve champion of the 2019 Utah Futurity 5/6 Open.

Reserve champion Red Right Hand, bred by Jerry Nye, Bend, Ore., is a half-brother to Hot Melody LTE $89,704, also bred by Nye out of Cats Melody, by WR This Cats Smart. Hot Melody, by Spots Hot, was shown by Russ Elrod to win the 2018 Utah 4-Year-Old Futurity and by Julie Elrod to win the Non-Pro Futurity and Non-Pro Limited of that event. Julie Elrod also showed 6-year-old Hot Melody this week to place third in the Cascades Futurity  5/6 Classic; she was reserve champion on the mare in the 2019 event.

Mama Don No, bred by Rocking L Cutting Horses, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., is the third NCHA money-earner out of GS Puddys Boonsmal LTE $104,068, by Peptoboonsmal. In addition to Kit Kat Kangaroo and Mama Don No, Monty Buntin also placed tenth aboard Starlights Fox, sired by High Brow Cat and owned by Steven Morgan, Lincoln, Calif.

Morgan Cromer, who showed 2020 Cascades Futurity 4-Year-Old Open reserve champion Catty Look, and 5/6 Classic reserve champion Bayou Creedence Cat, was aboard four out of 10 finalists in the 3-Year-Old Futurity: Bit Of A Kit Kat (4th), sired by Kit Kat Sugar and owned by Phillip Ralls, Paso Robles, Ca.;  Bet Yer Stylish (5th), sired by Metallic Cat and owned by Clarke Butte Ranch; Trumps Twiter Cat (6th), sired by Meteles Cat and owned by John Dallaire, Atascadero, Calif.; and Now You Sea Me (8th), sired by High Brow CD and owned by Jacob Pinheiro, Templeton, Calif.
