Trent Harrison, showing Heavy Metal Playgirl for Jared Tapp, Hanson, Ky., scored 222 points on Friday, July 17, to win the 2020 NCHA Metallic Cat Summer Spectacular Classic Challenge Open Limited and a winner’s check of $4,512. Bear Davis claimed reserve with 220.5 points on My Beach My Wave, owned Whit and Kim Davis, Millsap, Tex.; and Davide Facincani and The Kwack Shack scored 218 points to place third, for owner Anderson Cattle Company, Victoria, Tex.
Trent Harrison, the NCHA earner of $74,878, showed Heavy Metal Playgirl LTE $32,944 as a finalist in last year’s NCHA Classic Challenge Open Limited, after Tapp purchased her from Janet Trefethen, who had shown her as a finalist in the 2017 NCHA Futurity Unlimited Amateur finals and to place third in the PCCHA Futurity 4-Year-Old Non-Pro Limited. The 6-year-old Metallic Cat daughter was bred by Glenn Drake, Napa, Calif., out of Playboys Samantha, a Freckles Playboy daughter out of 1975 NCHA Futurity champion Lenaette.
Bear Davis, the NCHA earner of $182,279, was reserve champion of the 2016 NCHA Derby Unlimited Amateur aboard Red Solo Catt LTE $168,845, by Metallic Cat, who he had shown as Unlimited Amateur champion of the 2016 NCHA Super Stakes. Six-year-old My Beach My Wave LTE $68,417, by Metallic Cat, was shown by Dylan Meyer to win the 2019 NCHA Classic Challenge Open Limited reserve championship. Davis showed the Metallic Cat gelding as a non-pro finalist in the 2020 Ike Hamilton 5/6 Classic and the Arbuckle Mountain 5/6 Classic, and earlier this week, Davis and My Beach My Wave placed seventh in the NCHA Classic Challenge Open Intermediate finals.
Davide Facincani, the NCHA earner of $77,981, was a finalist in the 2020 Abilene Spectacular 5/6 Open Classic and won the Open Limited Novice of that event on 5-year-old Cayman Rey, by Dual Rey, also owned by Anderson Cattle Co. Five-year-old The Kwack Shack LTE $57,692, by Spots Hot, was trained by Pedro Ornelas and shown by Bella Anderson as reserve champion of the 2018 NCHA Futurity Limited Non-Pro and champion of the 2019 PCCHA Derby Non-Pro Intermediate. Ornelas also showed the Spots Hot gelding to win last year’s NCHA Derby Open Limited championship.
