Badboonarising, shown by Adan Banuelos for Plantation Farms, Denham Springs, La., scored 221.5 points on Monday, July 13, the first day of NCHA Metallic Cat Summer Spectacular Classic Challenge second go-round competition, to post the high cumulative score of 443 points. Hott Nu Cowboy, owned by Circle R Cutting Horses, Ocala, Fla., claimed the day’s top score with 226 points under Cullen Chartier and tallied a cumulative of 441, the day’s second-highest. Sweet Lil Prime Time, shown by Paul Hansma for Gary and Michelle Reichart, Frankton, Ind., marked 223, Monday’s second-highest individual score, as well as a cumulative of 439.5 points.

Sired by Once In A Blu Boon, 5-year-old Badboonarising LTE $289,845 currently ranks fifth in earnings among 5 & 6-year-old limited age event competitors. He was reserve champion of the 2018 NCHA Futurity with Banuelos, and has never placed less than tenth in ten other working finals, including the 2019 NCHA Super Stakes, where he was fourth.

Adan Banuelos, the NCHA Hall of Fame earner of over $3.2 million, was also reserve champion of the 2019 NCHA Futurity on Twice In Santiago, owned by Double Dove Ranch, Fort Worth, Tex., who he qualified for Thursday’s second go-round of the NCHA Derby. In addition to Twice In Santiago, by Once In A Blu Boon, Banuelos also qualified Ireydescent, owned by Brumbaugh Ranches, Aledo, Tex., and Bohemiann Rhapsody, owned by Ten/27 Ranch, Denham Springs, La., for the second go-round of NCHA Derby competition, which concludes on Friday.

Six-year-old Hottish-sired Hott Nu Cowboy LTE $126,802 is currently ranked fifth among 2020’s five and six-year-old money earners, with $37,369 earned under Cullen Chartier in four major events, including The Non-Pro Plus Open reserve championship. Chartier also qualified two horses for this week’s second go-round of the NCHA Derby – Twise Baked, by High Brow Cat, and Caliente, by Hottish, both owned by Circle R Cutting Horses.

Two other horses earned cumulative scores of 440 on Monday, 6-year-old One Alley Cat LTE $154,028, shown by Gavin Jordan for Tom Watson, Overland Park, Kan., and 5-year-old Bama Jelly LTE $167,844, shown by Austin Shepard for Madylyn Colgrove, Boligee, Ala.

One Alley Cat, by High Brow Cat, began his career as champion of the 2018 Abilene Spectacular under Cullen Chartier and carried Hilary Watson to place third in the 2018 NCHA Super Stakes Amateur Unlimited finals.

Bama Jelly, sired by Bamacat and bred by his owner, Madalyn Colgrove, Boligee, Ala., was Open champion under Shepard in the 2019 Arbuckle Mountain Futurity, as well as the Augusta Futurity. Earlier this year, Colgrove showed Bama Jelly to place third in the Ike Hamilton Futurity 5/6 Non-Pro finals, and Shepard showed him to win the any age NCHA Eastern Nationals Open championship.

Five-year-old Sweet Lil Prime Time LTE $61,183, sired by Sweet Lil Pepto and bred by Jerry Durant, Weatherford, Tex., won both the Pacific Coast Futurity and the Waco Texas Futurity Open championships at three with Phil Hanson.
