Twice In Santiago LTE $155,789 and Adan Banuelos, who claimed the 2019 NCHA Futurity Open reserve championship, scored 223 points on Saturday, February 1, to win the first go-round of the 2020 Ike Derby & Classic, in West Monroe, La. Sired by Once In A Blu Boon and bred and owned by Double Dove Ranch, Fort Worth, Tex., Twice In Santiago is a half-sister, out of Twice As Reycy LTE $194,141, by Dual Rey, to Pedel To The Metall LTE $246,371, by Metallic Cat, and Reycy Moon LTE $209,363, by Cats Moonshine, among four other major money earners.

One of 45 horses with scores of 216 points or higher, Twice In Santiago was also one of eight second go-round qualifiers shown by Adan Banuelos.

Oreyginal Gangsta LTE $24,652, ridden by Lloyd Cox; Buonvino, with Beau Galyean; and Tuff Nu Catillac, under Matt Miller, all tied with 222 points, the go-round’s second-highest score. 

Owned by Pat & Lisa Taylor, Pilot Point, Tex., and bred by Holmes & Hill, Fort Worth, Tex., the sorrel gelding Oreyginal Gangsta, by Dual Rey, was shown by Ascencion Banuelos as an NCHA Futurity Open semi-finalist, and by Cox to place fifth in the Abilene Spectacular. 

Lloyd Cox won the 2018 Ike Derby riding Julie Jarma-owned Blackish LTE $169,239, by Hottish. In addition to Oreyginal Gangsta, Cox qualified six other horses for the Ike Derby second go-round, including Fire Down Under, a full brother to Blackish, also owned and bred by Julie Jarma.

Oreyginal Gangsta is out of Cat Mom Do LTE $199,423, whose half-sister, the unshown Lizzys Gotta Player daughter Just U Babe, is the dam of Babes Smart Cat LTE $6,008, who scored 221.5 points on Saturday with Tatum Rice for Cows & Horses Inc., Dallas, Tex. Rice won the 2019 Ike Derby with 229 points on 2018 NCHA Futurity champion Crey Zee LTE $308,001, by Dual Rey, and also tied himself with 221.5 points on Saturday, riding Jae Zee LTE $30,635, by Boon Too Suen, a half-brother, out of Eazee E LTE $211,345, to Crey Zee. Jae Zee and Crey Zee are both owned and bred by Kevin and Sydney Knight, Weatherford, Tex.

Buonvino LTE $3,075, is owned by Billy Wolf, Whitesboro, Tex., the owner of 2017 NCHA Futurity Open champion Dual Reyish LTE $383,364. Sired by Metallic Cat, out of the Dual Rey daughter Never Reylinquish LTE $84,709, Buonvino was an Abilene Spectacular finalist (13th) under Beau Galyean, who won the 2016 Ike Derby on Metallic Rebel LTE $411,837, the 2017 NCHA Open Horse of the Year.

Tuff Nu Catillac, sired by Woody Be Tuff, and owned and bred by Blakley Colgrove, Boligee, Ala., qualified for the NCHA Futurity Open semi-finals with Matt Miller, who showed Sweet Lil Amanda  LTE $266,914, as the 2015 Ike Derby champion. In addition to Tuff Nu Catillac, Miller also qualified four other horses for the second go-round, including One Nu Catillac, a half-brother to Tuff Nu Catillac, by Peptoboonsmal out of Desires Nu Catillac LTE $58,923, a full sister to Thundercat LTE $302,762, among 30 earners of over $1.5 million out of Desire Some Freckles LTE $188,990, by Freckles Playboy.
