The NCHA Foundation Scholarship Cutting Senior Youth go-round on Thursday, during the Metallic Cat NCHA Summer Spectacular in Fort Worth, saw 23 riders with scores of 216.5 points or more advance to the finals, to be held on Friday, July 26. Competition was intense, with four riders who scored 220.5 points or more: Blakley Colgrove with 224 points; Brandon Westfall with 222; Kamryn Clark with 221; and Karrigan Cagley with 220.5 points.

Blakley Colgrove, Boligee, Ala., is riding 12-year-old Cat Man Blue LTE $239,982, by High Brow Cat, owned by her grandfather, Joel Colgrove. In 2017, Madison Flynn won the NYCHA Junior Youth Cutting riding Cat Man Blue, who her father, Ed Flynn, had shown in limited age competition.

Blakley Colgrove, 19, owns an impressive list of cutting accomplishments, chiefly as a finalist in limited age events. Her major wins include the 2017 NCHA Super Stakes Classic Non-Pro, the 2014 NCHA Futurity Amateur, and the 2015 NCHA Classic Challenge Amateur Unlimited, to name just a few.

Brandon Westfall, 19, Grandbury, Tex., is riding Reyning Cats $117,954, owned by Jerry and Suzanne Rava, Paso Robles, Calif. The 6-year-old Dual Rey daughter was trained and is shown by Brandon’s father, Russ Westfall, most recently, as reserve champion of the 2019 Pacific Coast Derby 5/6 Classic.

Brandon Westfall’s accomplishments include Non-Pro reserve championships in the 2017 NCHA Futurity and the 2017 NCHA Super Stakes.

Kamryn Clark, who celebrated her 18th birthday on Wednesday, July 24, is riding Looking For Caviar LTE $165,851, by WR This Cats Smart, owned by Michael Wood, Combine, Tex. Wood showed Looking For Caviar in Amateur limited age events, while Matt Miller showed the mare successfully in Open aged events.

In 2014, Kamryn, who is from Stephenville, Tex., was reserve champion of the Junior Youth NYCHA Scholarship Cutting and placed as a Senior Youth finalist in 2016, 2017, and 2018, as well. Her father, Jason Clark, trained her first Youth Scholarship mount, Willing Wilson LTE $51,827, sired by Smart Mate and bred by Dottie St. Clair Hill. 

Karrigan Cagley, Kentwood, La., is showing Looks Halreycious LTE $106,640, sired by Halreycious and owned by J3 Cutting Horses, Kentwood, La. The 10-year-old gelding was shown by Morgan Cromer to place ninth in the 2012 NCHA Open Futurity, and had also been shown successfully in Amateur aged event competition by John Lindsey.

Earlier this year, Karrigan showed Looks Halreycious to place fourth in the NCHA Eastern Nationals $25,000 Non-Pro Novice Finals; it was her fifth year to place in NCHA Eastern National divisions. She also claimed the 2014 NCHA World $15,000 Amateur championship, and was a Junior Youth finalist in the 2016 NYCHA Scholarship Cutting.
