Grant Martin wins Derby Amateur Finals

Grant Martin, Hensley, Ark., scored 217 points on CD Stylish Catt, by Sophisticated Catt, to win the Rios of Mercedes Amateur Finals of the 2019 Metallic Cat NCHA Summer Spectacular. James Hooper, Decatur, Ala., claimed reserve with 215.5 points on Princess Metallic, by Metallic Cat, while Ty Decordova, Groesbeck, Tex., placed third with 215 points on CR Maximum Tufness, by Woody Be Tuff.

Grant Martin and CD Stylish Catt LTE $15,616 had a good start coming into the Summer Spectacular. They had placed sixth in the 2018 NCHA Futurity Amateur Finals, claimed reserve in the 2019 Non-Pro Cutting Amateur Finals. They also placed seventh in the Arbuckle Mountain Futurity Amateur Finals, as well as seventh in the Ike Hamilton Futurity Amateur Unlimited. CD Stylish Catt is out of a half-sister to Stylish Top Brow LTE $185,140.

In 2018, Martin, the NCHA earner of $41,347, showed TR Reyn Dancer LTE $16,078, the horse he rode as a 2017 Senior Youth Finalist, to win the NCHA Eastern Nationals $15,000 Amateur Finals.

James Hooper, the NCHA Non-Pro Hall of Fame earner of $959,770, bred Princess Metallic out of Spots A Playin LTE $40,721, by Spots Hot, a mare that he and his wife Gail had shown successfully in Non-Pro limited age competition. Spots A Playin also produced Princess Metallic’s full brother, Playin Heavy Metal LTE $117,543, bred by Jody Galyean.

In 2018, Hooper showed Metallic Reyn Man LTE $21,308, by Metallic Cat, to place seventh in the NCHA Futurity Amateur Unlimited Finals and to earn money in three Futurity non-working finals, as well.

Ty Decordova, the NCHA earner of $33,075, has shown CR Maximum Tufness as a finalist in two divisions of three major events this year. The pair placed third in the Breeders Invitational Non-Pro Limited and seventh in the Breeders Invitational Amateur, and they were also Amateur finalists in the NCHA Super Stakes.
