Lucchese Cogdell claims Monday’s high score

Lucchese Cogdell, Tulia, Tex., reserve champion of the 2019 Metallic Cat Classic Challenge Non-Pro Limited Finals on July 17, riding Yall Im Countin, showed McClintockk to earn 219 points, the high score on Monday, July 22, the third day of Classic Challenge Rios of Mercedes Amateur and McAlister Assets Amateur Unlimited go-round competition. Cogdell; Madison Crum, who scored 220 points on Sunday on Call Me Catniss; and Regan Plendl, winner of the Classic Challenge Non-Pro aboard Cats Lightning Rey, who also scored 219, are currently the high-scoring Amateur Unlimited go-round contenders. Jacob Little, with 218 points on Bet Hes Amazing, currently leads Amateur contenders.

Earlier this year, Cogdell, the NCHA earner of $208,035, showed both Yall Im Countin LTE $35,569 and McLintockk LTE $42,611 as finalists in the NCHA Super Stakes Classic Non-Pro Limited. She also placed with McLintockk in the Unlimited Amateur finals of the Abilene Spectacular 5/6 Classic and the Cattlemen’s Classic.

Amateur Unlimited contenders Stacie McDavid and Katherine Goodfried, both of Fort Worth, Tex., tied on Monday with 217 points, the day’s second-highest score. Hunter Williams and Joey Varnadore had previously scored 217.5 and 217, respectively, in the Amateur Unlimited go-round.

Stacie McDavid, the NCHA Non-Pro Hall of Fame earner of $1,078,029, showed 6-year-old DMAC Piccolo Pete LTE $164,805. The WR This Cats Smart daughter has already carried McDavid in the finals of three major working events this year, including as reserve champion of the Breeders Invitational Amateur Unlimited.

Katherine Goodfried, the NCHA earner of $99,879, won the 2019 NCHA Super Stakes Classic Amateur championship aboard 6-year-old Trouble N Roan LTE $28,881, by Metallic Cat. On Monday, Goodfried was showing 6-year-old Metallic Fox LTE $17,928, a full sister to Trouble N Roan. Both mares are out of Dainty Playgirl LTE $269,122, the 1998 NCHA Open Futurity champion owned by Gary and Mickey Goodfried. Katherine Goodfried and Metallic Fox were also finalists in the 2018 NCHA Classic Challenge Amateur division.

The NCHA Classic Challenge Rios of Mercedes Amateur and McAlister Assets Amateur Unlimited go-round concludes on Tuesday, July 23, and the Semi-Finals for both divisions will be held on Wednesday, July 24.
