Langston Pattillo, St. Elmo, Ill., took control on the first day of the Metallic Cat NCHA Summer Spectacular Classic Challenge Non-Pro go-round with a winning score of 222 points on High Stylin CD, by High Brow CD, and with 220 points on Miss Lacey, by Kit Kat Sugar. 

Alexa Stent, Aledo, Tex., earned 221 points, the day’s second-highest score, riding Peepaboo, by Docs Stylish Oak, while Cody Hedlund, Lipan, Tex., showing Teles On Time, by One Time Royalty, tied Pattillo’s 220 points.

In addition to winning last year’s NCHA Classic Challenge Unlimited Amateur and Amateur divisions, Pattillo and High Stylin CD also won Amateur championships in the Breeders Invitational Classic and the Bonanza Classic. In the end, Pattillo claimed top honors as 2018 NCHA Amateur Rider of the Year with $138,601, most of it earned aboard High Stylin CD, who was named 2018 NCHA Amateur Horse of the Year. 

Six-year-old High Stylin CD LTE $192,826 was bred by Sunrise Ranch out of Stylin Playgirl LTE $203,277, by Docs Stylish Oak. So far this year, Pattillo and the talented gelding have won the Bonanza Classic Non-Pro championship, as well as the Breeders Invitational Classic Amateur Unlimited, and claimed reserve in the NCHA Super Stakes Amateur Unlimited.

Pattillo’s second mount on Monday, 5-year-old Miss Lacey LTE $8,535, was an Open finalist with Cullen Chartier in the 2018 PCCHA Derby and carried Pattillo in the Amateur Finals of the 2018 Brazos Brash, as well as the Amateur Unlimited Finals of the Southern Futurity. Bred by Jon and Traci Burgess, Miss Lacey is a half-sister, out of Smart Gemolena, to Im On A Safari LTE $205,416, by Playin Safari.

Alexa Stent placed third in the 2011 NCHA Classic Challenge Non-Pro riding Peepaboo’s dam, Little Bow Peepto LTE $134,559. Stent, the NCHA earner of $459,847, bred Little Bow Peepto and Peepaboo LTE $65,368, and has bred, owned, or shown many successful competitors from the same family, including Bowmerang LTE $145,014, by High Brow Cat, who she showed as reserve champion of the 2018 NCHA Super Stakes Classic Non-Pro, as well as One Million Reasons LTE $45,328, a half-sister to Peepaboo, who placed third in the 2018 NCHA Futurity Non-Pro.

Cody Hedlund, the NCHA Non-Pro Hall of Fame earner of $945,443, showed 5-year-old Teles One Time LTE $74,994 to place on Sunday in the finals of the NCHA Classic Challenge Open Limited. Last year, the pair placed sixth in the NCHA Super Stakes Non-Pro Finals and won the Ike Hamilton 5/6 Classic Non-Pro championship, earlier this year.

Teles One Time is a half-brother to Meteles Cat LTE $433,565, Metallic Cat’s #2 leading money earner, shown by Cody and his father, Rock Hedlund. Teles Lies, dam of Meteles Cat and Teles One Time, was trained and shown by Rock Hedlund and is the dam of six NCHA earners of $801,228.
