On Tuesday, Joseph Boyd, Scottsdale, Ariz., showed Bless Chu Mate LTE $58,332, owned by Gerald Dorros, of Scottsdale, to win the NCHA Western Nationals $2,000 Limited Rider Finals. Boyd also tied for third with 216 points on Cyndi Cat, owned by Dorros.
Rachel Floyd, Booker, Tex., scored 218 points for reserve aboard Rey Bans, while Tylor Todd, Rexford, Kan., scored 216 points on his own horse, Cat Xcellent, to tie Joseph Boyd for third.
Gerald Dorros showed Bless Chu Mate, by Smart Mate, as a $35,000 Non-Pro, $5,000 Non-Pro Novice, and $15,000 Amateur finalist in the 2017 NCHA Scottsdale National Finals. Most recently, Dorros won the 2019 Mane Event Amateur riding Smart Uni Brow, a High Brow Cat daughter, who Mike Wood showed as a finalist in this week’s $5,000 Novice Finals.
Rachel Floyd first competed in an NCHA Nationals event in 2017, when she showed Short Shooter to place fifth in the Denver Nationals Junior Youth Finals. In 2018, Floyd was aboard Dynamite High Brow, as a Senior Youth finalist in the NCHA Western Nationals, and also showed the High Brow Cat gelding in last weekend’s Senior Youth Finals. Dynamite High Brow and Floyd also placed in the 2018 NCHA $2,000 Limited Rider Top 15 standings.
Eighteen-year-old Dual Rey son Rey Bans LTE $68,621, Floyd’s mount in Tuesday’s finals, was bred by Gail Holmes and is owned by Sara Floyd. Trained by Lloyd Cox, Rey Bans had been a successful Non-Pro and Amateur limited age event competitor.
Tylor Todd made his NCHA Nationals debut last year, when he showed Catt Of Rey as a finalist in the Western Nationals $2,000 Limited Rider division. Last weekend, Todd placed fourth in the Senior Youth Finals on Cat Xcellent. Bred by Ty Moore and sired by Metallic Cat, 5-year-old Cat Xcellent LTE $28,865, was shown to place in last year’s NCHA Western Nationals $50,000 Amateur Finals by Stephanie Croft.
Cyndi Cat LTE $182,790, who tied Todd and Cat Xcellent for third, under Joseph Boyd, is a 12-year-old WR This Cats Smart daughter, bred by Jerry and Melinda Black. A successful Open and Non-Pro limited age event finalist, she was also shown by current owner Gerald Dorros, as a 2017 NCHA Scottsdale Nationals $50,000 Amateur finalist.
