The 2019 Breeders Invitational, in Tulsa, Okla., which began on May 11, moves into its second week of competition on Sunday, May 19, with the first day of 4-year-old Open go-rounds. Following is a breakdown of the 5/6 Classic/Challenge competition, which concluded on Saturday, May 18, with Non-Pro Limited, as well as Amateur and Amateur Unlimited Finals.

Classic/Challenge Open Finals
Im Quintan Checks, shown by John Sanislow, won the Classic/Challenge champion title and $21,377 with 222 points, in a tie-breaking workoff, after he and Hott Heels, ridden by Lloyd Cox, tied with 225 points. Crafty With Cows, under R.L. Chartier, scored 224 points for third.

Five-year-old gelding Im Quintan Checks LTE $133,887 was bred by Circle Y Ranch, owner of his sire, Im Countin Checks LTE $509,642, as well as his dam, Quintan Blue LTE $594,637, producer of earners of over $1.1 million. Quintan Blue won the 2007 Breeders Invitational Classic/Challenge Open under Roger Wagner, and Im Countin Checks was reserve champion of the 2006 Breeders Invitational Open with Matt Gaines. 

The Breeders Invitational represents 5-year-old Im Quintan Checks’ first limited age event finals in 2019. He was a finalist in five major events in 2018, including a fourth-place finish in the NCHA Super Stakes. He was also a finalist in the 2017 NCHA Futurity.

Five-year-old gelding Hott Heels LTE $72,846, by Hottish, was bred by Jackie Davidson out of Miss Peptonstilettos LTE $84,809,  and is owned by Julie Jarma, who showed him to place in Friday’s Classic/Challenge Non-Pro Finals.

Crafty With Cows LTE $383,168, by High Brow CD, was shown by R.L. Chartier for Carol Ward, who is also the 6-year-old gelding’s breeder. Crafty With Cows launched his career under Chartier, when he placed third in the 2016 NCHA Futurity.

Classic/Challenge Non-Pro Finals
Elizabeth Quirk scored 222 points to win the Classic/Challenge Non-Pro Finals on Catillac Reys LTE $154,755, by Metallic Cat, while Jessica Pounds scored 219 points for the reserve champion title, riding Etch N Sketch LTE $47,930, by Kit Kat Sugar. Greg Coalson, NCHA Non-Pro earner of over $1.8 million, placed third with 218 points on Juana Bet LTE $46,995, by Bet Hesa Cat.

Bred by Michelle Cannon, 5-year-old Catillac Reys is a full brother, out of Tootsie Rey LTE $200,876, to Chrome Catillac LTE $100,193. Adan Banuelos, who showed Catillac Reys as reserve champion of the 2018 NCHA Derby, also showed the gelding as a finalist in this week’s Classic/Challenge Open Finals.

Elizabeth Quirk, the NCHA Non-Pro Hall of Fame earner of $905,333, won the 2017 Breeders Invitational Non-Pro Novice division on Holmeboy LTE $65,692, by Metallic Cat.

Five-year-old Etch N Sketch was a 2017 NCHA Futurity Non-Pro finalist with Jessica Pounds, who also showed the gelding as Non-Pro reserve champion of the 2018 Waco Texas Futurity. Pounds, the NCHA earner of $323,962, won the 2016 Breeders Invitational Non-Pro Novice division riding Brown Bear LTE $38,665, by One Time Pepto.

Classic/Challenge Amateur Finals
Taylor Worley, the NCHA earner of $54,672 from Newkirk, Okla., won the Classic/Challenge Amateur with 219 points aboard Bliztkat LTE $88,795, by Metallic Cat. Worley was reserve champion of the 2018 Breeders Invitational riding My Pinky Promise LTE $8,814, by High Brow CD.

Tina Lattanzio, San Clemente, Calif., the NCHA earner of $32,451, scored 218 points to tie with Jack Kelly for reserve. Lattanzio was riding Smooth Movez LTE $31,721, by Im Countin Checks, while Kelly, Weatherford, Tex., the earner of $86,127, was aboard Sugar Wrush LTE $32,780, by Gold Wrush.

Classic/Challenge Amateur Unlimited Finals
Langston Pattillo, St. Elmo, Ill., won the Classic/Challenge Amateur Unlimited Finals with 225 points. Stacie McDavid, Fort Worth, Tex., and Reyly Plendl, Kingsley, Iowa, placed second and third, with 219.5 and 219 points, respectively.

Langston Pattillo, the NCHA earner of $284,897, was aboard the High Brow CD gelding High Stylin CD LTE $184,630, who Pattillo also showed as 2018 Breeders Invitational Classic/Challenge Amateur champion. Earlier this year, Pattillo and his gelding won the Bonanza Classic Non-Pro championship and took reserve in the NCHA Super Stakes Classic Amateur Unlimited.

Stacie McDavid, the NCHA Non-Pro Hall of Fame earner of $1,057,065, showed DMAC Piccolo Pete LTE $161,395, a 6-year-old daughter of WR This Cats Smart. McDavid and DMAC Piccolo Pete also were reserve champions of the 2018 Classic/Challenge Amateur Unlimited.

Reyly Plendl, the NCHA earner of $212,885, was aboard 6-year-old Mr Metallic Rey LTE $148,883, by Metallic Cat. Plendl showed the gelding earlier this year as reserve champion of the Cattlemen’s Non-Pro Classic/Challenge and champion of the Cattlemen’s Classic/Challenge Amateur Unlimited.
