Kelsey Johnson, Weatherford, Tex., scored 222 points riding Smart Cat Rey RG, by Dual Smart Rey, to win $12,724 and the Arbuckle Mountain 4-Year-Old Non-Pro. Constance Jaeggi, of Weatherford, claimed reserve with 220 points aboard the Dual Smart Rey son Sueper Trouper, while Michelle Cowan, Ardmore, Okla., placed third with 218 on Gingrsnap, by Woody Be Tuff.
Kelsey Johnson and Smart Cat Rey RG $49,151 placed fifth in the NCHA Futurity Non-Pro Finals and earlier this month placed fifth in the Ike Hamilton 4-Year-Old Non-Pro. The NCHA Non-Pro Hall of Fame earner of $676,507, Johnson won the 2011 NCHA Futurity Amateur championship on One Sweet Sis $94,925, and also claimed 2012 Amateur championships riding the One Time Pepto daughter in the Cotton Stakes and Brazos Bash. In 2013, she showed Metallic Jones $163,273, by Metallic Cat, to claim the NCHA Futurity Non-Pro Limited reserve championship.
Constance Jaeggi, the NCHA Non-Pro earner of $644,614, was the 2014 NCHA Non-Pro World Champion riding Saguaro Ichi $293,796, who was also NCHA Non-Pro Horse of the Year. Jaeggi was also an Arbuckle Mountain Classic finalist in 2018 showing Sueper Trouper’s dam, Ichis My Choice $418,693, who was 2016 NCHA Open Horse of the Year under Grant Setnicka. Sueper Trouper is the first foal out of the Cat Ichi daughter to perform.
Michelle Cowan, the earner of $495,206, showed Gingrsnap $25,548 to win the Ike Hamilton 4-Year-Old Intermediate division and to place sixth in the Non-Pro Finals. In 2015, Cowan rode Iridescent Cat $118,522, by Catty Hawk, to claim the NCHA Futurity reserve championship, and in 2018, she placed third with Shes Full Of Hope $172,046, by Smart Mate, in the NCHA Super Stakes Non-Pro Classic.
