Henry Duane Spurger was born on September 29, 1921 in Tom Green County, Texas to Walter Lane Spurger and Norma Lorraine Hill Spurger. He passed peacefully at home with his family on December 5, 2018 at the age of 97. He was married to Dorcie Fayrene Spurger on November 22, 1940. Henry was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Evelyn Boyd and Constance Hensick as well as his wife Fayrene; two sons, Henry Duane Spurger Jr. and Bryan Spurger and one grandson, Rhett Thiebaud. He is survived by two sons; Lyle Spurger of Proctor, Texas, Matthew Spurger of Gustine, Texas and two daughters, Barbara Hudson and Jo Spurger, both of Glen Rose, Texas. In 1951 the family moved to Carlton, Texas where Henry pursued his passion for breeding and training Quarter horses and Border Collies. He was a member of the (AQHA/NCHA), the American Border Collie Association and was a WWII veteran. Henry once said “All a man is entitled to is one good horse, one good dog, and one good woman.”
