2018 North Texas Chevy Dealers NCHA Futurity, presented by Great American Insurance

Cade Shepard, Summerdale, Ala., scored 222 points on Friday night to win the 2018 NCHA Futurity Non-Pro Finals. Lindy Ashlock, Abilene, Tex., scored 218 points for the reserve championship, while Blakley Colgrove, Boligee, Ala., and Alexa Stent, Aledo, Tex., tied with 217 points to split third and fourth places.

Cade Shepard, who turned 17 in November, showed Chexy Louella, by Im Countin Checks, for his championship win. Chexy Louella is out of Louellas Cat ($302,483), a full sister to Cattalou ($295,057) and Louis The Cat ($254,458), as well as half-sister to Movin Downtown ($334,523).

Shepard, the NCHA Non-Pro Hall of Fame earner of $690,937, won both the NCHA Super Stakes and NCHA Derby Non-Pro championships in 2015 on Twistful Thinking. He also scored 218 points during Thurday’s Non-Pro Semi-Finals for a 3-way high-scoring tie riding Barney Ross, by Bamacat. Shepard and Barney Ross, the last to show in the 20-horse Non-Pro Finals, scored 210 points to tie for 12/13.

Lindy Ashlock, the NCHA Non-Pro Hall of Fame earner of $1,550,733, rode Very Reytro, by Dual Rey, for the reserve championship, and also placed fifteenth with 207 points on Desiresomeroyalty, by One Time Royalty. Ashlock won the 2017 NCHA Super Stakes Non-Pro on In Reyverse ($97,145), also sired by Dual Rey. Very Reytro is out of Cat Mom Do ($199,423), by High Brow Cat, half-sister to Moms Stylish Player ($349,238).

Blakley Colgrove, 17, the NCHA earner of $622,943, was an NCHA Futurity Non-Pro finalist in 2016 aboard Tap This ($79,366), by Metallic Cat. She also won the 2017 NCHA Super Stakes Classic Non-Pro with Paradox Cat ($172,743), by High Brow Cat. Madalyn Colgrove, 19, Blakley’s sister and the NCHA earner of $587,937, was also a 2018 NCHA Futurity Non-Pro Finalist riding Hammer Hughes, by Thomas E Hughes.

Alexa Stent, the NCHA earner of $410,721, showed One Million Reasons, by Smooth As A Cat. One Million Reasons, bred by Stent, is half-sister to Peeptos Cat ($101,410), by Cat Ichi. Stent also bred and showed Little Bow Peepto ($134,559), the dam of One Million Reasons, and bred Stylish Little Bow ($231,164) and Big Bow Pepto ($158,027), siblings of Little Bow Pepto.
