2018 North Texas Chevy Dealers NCHA Futurity, presented by Great American Insurance
Under 20 and over the top was the axiom for the 2018 NCHA Futurity Limited Non-Pro Finals, where 14-year-old Charles Russell Bushaw claimed the championship with 221 points; 15-year-old Bella Anderson earned the reserve championship with 217 points; and 17-year-old Ryan Rapp placed third with 215.
Charles Russell Bushaw, Weatherford, Tex., showed Wood You See, a Woody Be Tuff daughter trained by his father, NCHA Non-Pro Hall of Fame rider and two-times NCHA Futurity Non-Pro champion Chad Bushaw. Charles Russell, the NCHA earner of $82,578, placed seventh in last year’s NCHA Futurity Unlimited Amateur riding Snappcat, by High Brow Cat, and also qualified for this year’s NCHA Futurity Amateur Finals with Wood You See.

Bella Anderson, Weatherford, Tex., showed The Kwack Shack, by Spots Hot, who qualified for the NCHA Futurity Open Semi-Finals, on Saturday, December 8, under Pedro Ornelas. Bella also scored 216 points on The Kwack Shack to tie for the go-round lead among Unlimited Amateur contenders.
Last year, Bella, the NCHA earner of $132,034, showed Bobby Jack Cat, by Cats Quixote Jack, as reserve champion of the NCHA Futurity Unlimited Amateur.
Ryan Rapp was aboard Johnny Merada, by Cats Merada, who was shown by his father and mother, Phil and Mary Ann Rapp, all-time leading Open and Non-Pro money earners. Ryan placed in last year’s NCHA Futurity Non-Pro Finals on Manteca Moe, by Hydrive Cat, who he also showed as a Non-Pro and Limited Non-Pro finalist in the 2018 NCHA Super Stakes.
Ryan Rapp also qualified for Friday’s Non-Pro Semi-Finals with a cumulative of 431 points riding Johnny Merada.
The 2018 NCHA Futurity continues daily through Sunday, December 9; the NCHA Futurity Sales, held at Will Rogers Equestrian Center in conjunction with the NCHA Futurity, begin Monday, December 3 and continue daily through December 8.
