Ms Baby Cakes, ridden by Lloyd Cox for owner and breeder Barker Ranch, claimed the high cumulative score of 437.5 points on Tuesday, the first day of Open second go-round competition in the 2018 North Texas Chevy Dealers NCHA Futurity, presented by Great American Insurance in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Metallic Cat daughter marked 222 points on Sunday in the first go-round, the second best score overall to Fracker Brown’s 223 the day before. Metallic Cat son Slooow Ride, shown by Ascencion Banuelos for Pat and Lisa Taylor with a score of 220 in the first go-round, added 217 more yesterday for a total of 437.

Ms Baby Cakes is out of Special Nu Baby, the 2015 NCHA World Champion and 2016 NCHA Horse of the Year for Gary and Shannon Barker of Madill, Oklahoma. Special Nu Baby earned $481,197, and has produced earners of $266,000, including Smooth Nu Cat ($193,816), who Gary Barker rode to win the Unlimited Amateur championship at the NCHA Super Stakes Classic last spring.

Special Nu Baby’s dam, Nu I Wood ($405,302) is an NCHA Hall of Fame Horse and Open winner of the 2001 NCHA Derby and 2003 Super Stakes Classic.

Slooow Ride was bred by Alvin Fults out of Sweet Shorty Lena, by Shorty Lena. Sweet Shorty Lena was an Open and Non-Pro finalist in multiple aged events for Jody and Wesley Galyean. Her first money earner was Spots Hot, the NCHA Horse of the Year who Wesley Galyean rode to earn $502,682 in Non-Pro and Open events, including the 2004 NCHA Futurity Open championship. Sweet Shorty Lena’s babies have combined earnings of more than $1.2 million.

Metallics MVP, shown by Hayden Upton for Select Stock, and The Dewd, ridden by Rodrigo Taboga for Alvins Fults, tied with Tuesday’s high individual score of 219 points. While Her Royal Queen, by One Time Royalty, scored 218.5 points, under Salvador Cabral for Rocky Davis.

Sired by Metallic Cat, Metallics MVP is out of My Lizzy Babe ($163,653), a full sister, by Lizzys Gotta Player, to earners of $948,78, including Moms Stylish Player ($349,238) and Card Trick ($191,555).

The Dewd, a gelding sired by Metallic Cat and bred and owned by Alvin Fults, is a full brother, out of Sweet Abra, to 2017 NCHA Open Horse of the Year Metallic Rebel ($411,837), as well as four other earners of over $100,000 each. The Dewd’s full brother Maggic Mike, owned and ridden by Salvador Cabral, will also advance from the second round with a cumulative score of 436.

Sweet Abra, by Abrakadabracre, is the dam of 12 NCHA money earners of $1,106,088.

Her Royal Queen, out of Xquizit Cat, is a half-sister,  by Dual Rey, to Redneck Creyzy ($119,066), the 2017 NCHA Futurity and 2018 NCHA Super Stakes Amateur Unlimited champion under Rocky Davis.

The Open second go-round continues through Thursday, November 22.
