NCHA Foundation Update
NCHA Charities Foundation hires new Executive Director
The world of cutting, whether on the ranch or in the arena, is one made up of men and
women that believe in taking care of their own. The National Cutting Horse Association
(NCHA) Charities Foundation is excited to announce their first ever Executive Director.
After more than 30 years of helping cutting families as a dedicated group of volunteers,
the NCHA Charities Foundation is thrilled to have a full-time specialist facilitate their
impact in the areas of scholarship and crisis funding, education and promotion of the
sport of cutting, history and preservation, and the animal welfare initiatives that are
related to our sport.
Laura Wood holds a BS in Management and has a professional background in sales,
fundraising, marketing, and project management spanning 20 years. After 11 years in
sales, she joined the non-profit world professionally with The Nature Conservancy of
Texas serving as Associate Director of Philanthropy for 4 and half years in Northwest
Texas. In 2009 she took over her family’s foundation named in honor of her
grandmother Dorothy Marcille Wood, a lifelong West Texas rancher who made a big
impact on her and her love for the land. In this capacity Laura consulted with
numerous public and private agencies as an extension arm for board management,
strategic planning, event planning, fundraising and marketing, including several years
with Texas Parks & Wildlife Department.
Laura also spent 9 years as the Executive Director of the Friends of the Fort Worth
Nature Center, and most recently contracted as a non-profit consultant with M. Gale &
Associates.
She currently serves as a Board of Director for Sul Ross State University Foundation in
Alpine, Texas, Board of Director and Past President of Lena Pope Home, Inc. in Fort
Worth, and is a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) in Tarrant County.
