Ms Baby Cakes, ridden by Lloyd Cox for owner and breeder Barker Ranch, marked 222 on Sunday as the first round of Open competition at the 2018 North Texas Chevy Dealers NCHA Futurity, presented by Great American Insurance continued in Fort Worth, Texas.

It was the top score of the day, and second best overall to Fracker Brown’s 223 the day before. Sunday’s second high score, 219, was posted by Crown That Cat in the last set of the day. Four horses, Maggic Mike, The Kwack Shack, Bet Some Memories 15, and Pepsi Boon, all marked 218.5 for Sunday’s third highest score.

Ms Baby Cakes is by Metallic Cat out of Special Nu Baby, the 2015 NCHA World Champion and 2016 NCHA Horse of the Year for Gary and Shannon Barker of Madill, Oklahoma. Special Nu Baby earned $481,197, and has produced earners of $266,000 including Smooth Nu Cat ($193,816), which Gary Barker rode to win the Unlimited Amateur championship at the NCHA Super Stakes Classic last spring.

Special Nu Baby’s dam, Nu I Wood, is an NCHA Hall of Fame Horse, and winner of the NCHA Derby and Super Stakes Classic.

Sunday’s second top horse, Crown That Cat, is a $19,000 Western Bloodstock NCHA Futurity Sales graduate ridden by Greg Wright for Star C Land and Cattle Co. of Oklahoma City. Crown That Cat was bred by Lannie Louise Mecom by Metallic Cat out of Princess Clarence. Princess Clarence earned $42,337, and was reserve champion of the 2011 Cattlemen’s Derby. Princess Clarence is the dam of Spur That Spot, Megan Miller’s mount as reserve champion of Non-Pro at the Pacific Coast Derby.

Crown That Cat’s second dam, Miss Woody Two Shoes, was an NCHA Futurity finalist and $430,000 producer. Miss Woody Two Shoes’ dam, Miss Echo Wood, was a $1.3 million producer.

Marking 218.5 on Sunday, Maggic Mike is a son of Metallic Cat owned and ridden by Salvador Cabral of Jacksboro, Texs. Bred by Alvin Fults out of $1.1 million producer Sweet Abra, Maggic Mike is a full brother to 2017 NCHA Horse of the Year Metallic Rebel ($411,837), Magistic Moon ($187,608), Magic Metallic ($157,174), Magic Metalman ($131,348) and Sweet Metallic ($130,962).

The Kwack Shack is a son of Spots Hot ridden by Pedro Ornelas for Anderson Cattle Co. of Victoria, Texas. Bred by PJ Cutters, he sold for $7,000 as a yearling at the Western Bloodstock NCHA Futurity Sales. He is out of Kwackin Cat, a mare Ornelas showed in multiple Novice finals at the NCHA Eastern and Western Nationals. Kwackin Cat is a full sister to $225,000 earner Catting, and a half-sister to NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity champion Smart Crackin Chic.

Bet Some Memories 15 was ridden by Brett Davis for E.T. Jones of Dallas, Texas. Bred by James Eakin, he sold for $10,500 at the 2016 NCHA Western Bloodstock NCHA Futurity Sales. He is by Bet Hesa Cat out of 1997 NCHA Futurity champion Some Kinda Memories. Some Kinda Memories has produced earners of $987,000 including Some Kinda Highbrow ($447,788), Some Kinda Sweety ($134,193) and My Lil Catillac ($107,939).

Pepsi Boon, ridden by Ryan Moore for Jerry and Luann Jeffries of Naylor, Missouri, was another $10,500 purchase at the 2016 NCHA Western Bloodstock NCHA Futurity Sales. He was bred by Denny Vest by Once In A Blu Boon out of Paula Dual, by Dual Pep. Paula Dual earned more than $40,000 in weekend shows.

The first round of Open competition concludes with seven sets on Monday.
