A heady roster of limited age divisions worth a total of more than $647,000 drew contestants nationwide to Las Vegas’s South Point Equestrian Arena, for the PCCHA Holy Cow Performance Horses Futurity on October 4 through 13. The Futurity Open Finals, with a total of $154,865, offered the richest rewards and Texas owners, with seven of the 14 finalists, reaped the benefits.

Owners Jerry and Vickie Durant, Weatherford, Tex., dominated the 3-Year-Old Futurity Open Finals with Sweet Lil Prime Time and Metallic Legacy, the champion and reserve champion, respectively, and Little Swiss Rey, who split 10/11 in the 14-horse field.

Durant-bred Sweet Lil Prime Time, by Sweet Lil Pepto out of Prime Time Kat, by High Brow Cat, scored 222 points for his $25,000 win under Phil Hanson, while Metallic Legacy, sired by Metallic Cat and purchased by the Durants at the 2016 Western Bloodstock NCHA Futurity Sales, scored 218.5 points to earn $22,500 with Gary Gonsalves. Third-placed Haldou Do, sired by Halreycious, owned by Hanson Revocable Trust, Weatherford, Tex., and shown by Phil Hanson, earned $19,000. Hanson also showed Little Swiss Rey, and rode Roan To Da Bone for the Durants in the 4-Year-Old Derby Finals (8/9).

Rollz Royce LTE $158,604, sired by Dual Smart Rey and owned by Thomas Guinn, Philadelphia, Miss., scored 225 points with Beau Galyean to win the Derby Open championship and $14,000. Matt Miller and Megan Miller-owned Carolena Reyn LTE $189,855, also sired by Dual Smart Rey, claimed the reserve championship and $12,000 with 221.5 points under Matt Miller; and Taliate $160,787, sired by Metallic Cat and shown by Casey Green, placed third with 218.5 points for Bobby and Mary Jo Hawkins, Seguin, Tex. Green also split 5/7 in the Derby riding Rey Luis, by Dual Smart Rey, for Nancy Burkes, Hibbing, Minn.

In addition to his Derby win aboard Rollz Royce, Beau Galyean placed (10th) in the Derby on his own horse, Desiresomettalic, by Metallic Cat, and placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the Classic with Rose Colored Rey, sired by Dual Rey and owned by Ellen Carter, Teton Village, Wyo., and Bet Yer Metallic, by Metallic Cat, owned by Jeffrey Neidhart, Farmington, NM.

Six-year-old Metallic Cat daughter Cromed Out Cat, LTE $238,770, the 2016 PCCHA 4-Year-Old champion and 2017 Classic reserve champion, won the Classic Open with 228 points under T.J. Good for Beechfork Ranch, Weatherford, Tex. Five-year-old Second Spot LTE $333,912, by Spots Hot, scored 224 points with Lloyd Cox to claim reserve for Gary and Shannon Barker, Madill, Okla., while Stylish Look Bella LTE $172,140, by Dual Smart Rey, placed third with 220.5 points under Morgan Cromer, for Marvin and Paulette Teixeira, Santa Maria, Calif.

T.J. Good also placed tenth in the Classic riding 5-year-old Tricked Ya, by Smooth As A Cat, for Bitterroot Ranch, Las Vegas, Nev , and was fourth in the Derby aboard Beechfork-owned Candi Cat, by High Brow Cat, as well as ninth in the Futurity with Stunner Cat, by Metallic Cat, for JLC Performance Horses, Marietta, Okla.
