Cotton Stakes Increase

Big numbers at Cotton Stakes with the proposed leveling system

The motto leading up to the 2018 Cotton Stakes was “more money, more classes, and more fun”and that is exactly what is happening this year due to the efforts of Robert Charles Brown, Ora Diehl, Denise Seiz and the newly proposed leveling system.

After hearing the leveling presentation at the 2018 NCHA Convention back in June, Robert Charles was excited about the idea and wanted to implement at his upcoming show, the Cotton Stakes.

“I was tired of losing money and entries at the show in past years and was about to be out on producing the Cotton Stakes,” Robert Charles said. “I believed the leveling system would be a fix to the problem.”

Robert Charles was right. Total entries for the show have increased nearly 145 percent this year. Last year the numbers capped right around 300 and this year entries are over 750.

“Not only have we seen an increase in the entry numbers but there has been a stronger and more positive atmosphere at the show this year,” Robert Charles said.

With the conclusion of the Open division classes, Ora Diehl and Denise Seiz, members of the Competition Committee who proposed the leveling system, have been at the Cotton Stakes running analytics on entries numbers and payouts compared to previous years.

“Although the show is still going on and numbers are unofficial we are still seeing an increase in in all aspects of the Open Division compared to the 2017 show,” Denise Seiz said.

In the Open division the total payouts this year are an estimated $296,352, this is an 84 percent increase from last year. Entries have increased nearly 160 percent, from last year’s 136 open division entries. A total of 103 checks were distributed compared to last year’s 41 checks.

The Cotton Stakes will continue through September 9thin West Monore, Louisiana. For more information on results and the live webcast please visit www.cottonstakescutting.com.
