Major success with Mid-Year Cutting Horse Sale

Combining the NCHA Super Stakes Sale and the NCHA Summer Spectacular Sale this year into the new Mid-Year Cutting Horse Sale proved the right move. The 2018 Mid-Year Cutting Horse Sale, held on Saturday, July 21 during the NCHA Summer Spectacular, saw a 42 percent increase in sales averages and the highest average for the summer venue since 2010.

The high seller at $71,000 – one of 16 lots that sold for over $20,000 – was That Check Bounced LTE $51,641, an 8-year-old daughter of Im Countin Checks, bred to Hottish, and a half-sister to Jae Bar One Time LTE $199,850. Bred by Wrigley Ranches, That Check Bounced was consigned by Mark Stucks and purchased by Hunter Meinzer, Weatherford, Tex.

Sly Reygirl LTE 46,826, purchased for $55,000 by William Riddle, Port Deposit, Md., was the sale’s high-selling show horse. The 5-year-old daughter of Dual Rey, in training with Lloyd Cox, is out of Sly Playgirl $343,467 and was consigned by her breeder, Rocking L Cutting Horses, LLC.

Fourteen-year-old Some Kinda Sweety, at $45,000, was the high-selling older mare. Consigned by Wade Miller Smith, the Sweet Lil Pepto daughter, out of 1997 NCHA Futurity Open champion Some Kinda Memories LTE $378,671, sold to Alvin Fults, Amarillo, Tex., with two embryos by Hashtags. Some Kinda Sweety is the dam of five NCHA money earners, including Some Sweet Checks LTE $95,978, by Im Countin Checks, and Some Smooth Cat LTE $59,854, by Smooth As A Cat.

Shes Fire And Ice, at $40,000, was the high-selling 3-year-old. Consigned by Glover Galyean Partnership, the Spots Hot daughter, out of money-earner producer Catomine LTE $125,319, sold in training with Wesley Galyean to Mike Schraeder, Cypress, Tex.

The high-selling gelding, at $30,000, was 4-year-old Wicked Metal LTE $10,150. Consigned by Carol Ward and in training with Darren Simpkins, the red roan Metallic Cat son was purchased by Von Sutten, Weatherford, Tex.
The high-selling yearling, at $30,000, was Metallic Wonderwoman. Consigned by Fults Ranch, the Metallic Cat daughter, out of leading producer Sweet Shorty Lena, is half-sister to 2004 NCHA Futurity Open champion and sire Spots Hot.
