2018 Lucas Oil NCHA Super Stakes – April 9, 2018 – Fort Worth, Tex.
Alberto Rodriguez, Tioga, Tex., scored 217 points on Mo Metallic, by Metallic Cat, to top the second day of NCHA Super Stakes Classic go-round of Amateur/Unlimited Amateur competition. Gary Rosenbach, Weatherford, Tex., showed the Metallic Cat gelding Pharrel to post 216 points, the day’s second highest score.
Five riders tied with 215.5 points: Bobby Ray Hawkins, Seguin, Tex., on CD Wood, by High Brow CD; Blake Heid, Fort Worth, Tex., with PRF Cats Value, by Hydrive Cat; Jose Ignacio Sigala, Weatherford, Tex., riding Grenache Grape, by Sigala Rey; Carol Ward, Rancho Murieta, Calif., aboard Littledougdeal, by Dealnwithacoolcat; and John Rockey, Palmdale, Calif., on Dureyngo Kid, by Reys Dual Badger.
Alberto Rodriguez, the NCHA earner of $13,268, and Mo Metallic made their debut together in the 2017 NCHA Futurity Amateur Finals and won the 2018 Ike Hamilton Futurity 4-Year-Old Amateur Unlimited. They also placed in the Ike Hamilton Amateur (3rd), as well as in the Bonanza Amateur (3rd) and the Cattlemen’s Derby Amateur (6th).
Gary Rosenbach is a two-time NCHA Super Stakes champion. He won the 2017 NCHA Super Stakes Amateur Unlimited riding Herding Instincts, by Herding Cats, as well as the 2013 Super Stakes Amateur with Scooters Daisy Dukes, by Dual Smart Rey.
Pharrel LTE $42,233, carried Rosenbach as a finalist in the NCHA Futurity Amateur Unlimited, and has been a 2018 finalist with Michael Cooper, who shows for Rosenbach’s Rose Valley Ranch, in the Cattlemen’s Derby Open, the Bonanza Open, and the Ike Hamilton Futurity Open.
Bobby Hawkins and CD Wood have earned money in the Senior Non-Pro divisions of the NCHA Futurity (4th) and the Abilene Spectacular (1st). Hawkins, the NCHA earner of $368,411, won the 2015 Super Stakes Amateur Unlimited aboard Reybellion, by Dual Rey, and the 2014 Super Stakes Amateur Unlimited with Lil Ruby Rey, by TR Dual Rey.
Blake Heid, the NCHA earner of $34,069, qualified for the yet-to-be-held 2018 Super Stakes Classic Amateur Unlimited Semi-Finals and the Super Stakes Amateur Finals on Catty Lil CD, by High Brow CD. He showed PRF Cats Value as a finalist (7th) in the NCHA Futurity Amateur, and as a finalist in the 2018 Abilene Spectacular Amateur and Amateur Unlimited finals (4th and 10th).
Jose Sigala, the NCHA earner of $71,517, was a 2017 Super Stakes Classic Amateur finalist (11th) on Tassa Mia Rey II, by Dual Rey, and a 2016 Super Stakes Amateur finalist (6th) with Wasabi Spice by Smooth As A Cat. He was also an NCHA Futurity Amateur Unlimited Semi-Finalist aboard Grenache Grape.
Carol Ward, the NCHA Non-Pro earner of $867,663, also qualified for the 2018 Super Stakes Classic Unlimited Semi-Finals with the High Brow CD gelding Crafty With Cows, who she showed as 2017 NCHA Derby Amateur Unlimited champion. She placed fourth in the Non-Pro Senior division of the 2017 NCHA Futurity riding Littledougdeal, her Super Stakes Amatuer mount.
John Rockey, entered in the Amateur and Amateur Unlimited divisions posted 217 points on Dureyngo Kid on Sunday, and followed it on Monday with 215.5. He also qualified for the Super Stakes Classic Amateur Unlimited with Medal For Honor, by Metallic Cat. The NCHA earner of $165,958, Rockey placed third in the 2016 Super Stakes Classic Amateur on Let Georgie Do It, by Metallic Cat.
Rockey and Dureyngo Kid won both the 2018 Cattlemen’s Derby Amateur Unlimited and Amateur championships.
