2018 Lucas Oil NCHA Super Stakes – April 7, 2018 – Fort Worth, Tex.
Langston Pattillo, St. Elmo, IL, scored 219.5 points on High Stylin CD to top the third and last day of Amateur/Unlimited Amateur 5/6 Classic first go-round competition. Hilary Watson, Overland Park, Kan., showed Iridescent Cat to earn 219 points, the second-highest score of the day, while Kathleen Sullivan, Sioux Falls, S.D., came in third with 218.5 points.
Danny Jones, Alberta, Canada, who qualified for the Amateur Unlimited Semi-Finals, remained the high-scoring rider from all Amateur and Amateur Unlimited go-round contenders with 223 points aboard Play Miss Boonsmal, by Peptoboonsmal.
Langston Pattillo and 5-year-old High Stylin CD, by High Brow CD, topped the field (with 214 points or more) advancing to the Super Stakes Classic Amateur Finals on Thursday, April 12. But before that, on Tuesday, April 10, they will compete in the Super Stakes Classic Non-Pro Limited Finals. Pattillo also qualified for the Classic Amateur Finals with 215.5 points on Dualins Smooth Legacy, by Smooth As A Cat.
After winning the 2017 Brazos Bash 4-Year-Old Amateur, High Stylin CD and Pattillo kept up the pace with the 2018 Abilene Spectacular 5/6-Year-Old Amateur Unlimited reserve champion title and the 2018 Bonanza 5/6-Year-Old Amateur championship win, as well as money earned as a finalist in the Arbuckle Mountain 5/6 Amateur and the Cattlemens Derby 5/6-Year-Old Amateur Unlimited.
Hilary Watson, advanced to the Super Stakes Amateur Unlimited Semi-Finals, along with 67 other riders with scores of 213 points or more. In addition to Iridescent Cat, by Catty Hawk, Watson also qualified on Reychel, by Light N Lena, with 217.5 points.
Earlier this year, Hilary Watson and Reychel earned the reserve championship of the Bonanza 5/6 Amateur Unlimited, and placed (8th) in the Bonanza 5/6 Amateur finals, as well as in the Arbuckle Mountain 5/6 Amateur and 5/6 Amateur Unlimited divisions.
Kathleen Sullivan, the NCHA earner of $77,468, who last earned money in major limited age competition in 2008 aboard Bodee Quixote, by Bodee Boonsmal, qualified for the Classic Amateur Finals on Lectrifyn Royalty, the earner of $1,441, sired by One Time Royalty.
