2017 NCHA Eastern National Championships – March 11, 2018 – Jackson, Miss.

Ali Good wins Senior Youth Championship

Ali Good, Ringling, Okla., scored 221 points to capture the 6666 Ranch NCHA Eastern Nationals Senior Youth championship. Pittman Todd Turner, Franklin, Ga., earned the reserve champion’s title with 216 points, while Karrigan Cagley, Kentwood, La., and Mattie Marie Dukes, Weatherford, Tex., tied for third with 215 points.

Ali Good, who won the 2017 NCHA Futurity Non-Pro Limited on Sneakish, showed Cat Atat Cat to win the Senior Youth Finals. The gelded son of High Brow Cat also carried Good to win the $35,000 Non-Pro All division of the 2017 Non-Pro Cutting, as well as to place third in the Mercuria NCHA World Series Non-Pro at the AQHA Congress. Good also won the 2010 NCHA Summer Spectacular Junior Youth competition, when she was 10 years old.

Pittman Todd Turner and his mount Hickorys Handy Cat, by High Brow Cat, won last year’s NCHA Eastern Nationals Senior Youth championship, and in 2015, he placed as reserve champion in the $15,000 Amateur division of the NCHA Eastern Nationals on Hez Neon Blue. This year, Turner placed fourth in the Augusta Futurity Classic Amateur Finals on Toms Desire, and also claimed fifth in the Unlimited Amateur of the same event.

Karrigan Cagley showed Little Sweet Spot, the 11-year-old Spots Hot son who carried her to place fourth in the 2017 NCHA World Finals Junior Youth division, as well as to score the win in the 2016 Augusta Futurity $50,000 Amateur for all ages.

Mattie Marie Dukes rode 9-year-old One Time Player, by One Time Pepto. Together in the past three years,  the pair have placed as finalists in Senior Youth divisions of the NCHA Eastern Nationals, the NYCHA World Finals, the NYCHA Scholarship Cutting, the NCHA World Finals, and the AQHYA Cutting.

Katherine Queen wins Junior Youth Championship

Katherine Queen, Allendale S.C., scored 225 points to win the NCHA Eastern Nationals Junior Youth championship. Charles Russell Bushaw claimed the reserve championship with 219, while Gavin Callahan claimed third with 217 points.

Katherine Queen rode Metallic Manziel, the 7-year-old Metallic Cat gelding that carried her to win championship in the 2017 Bonanza 5/6 Classic Non-Pro and the 2017 Augusta Futurity 5/6 Classic Non-Pro. The pair also placed in the finals of the 2017 NCHA Classic Challenge Non-Pro and Non-Pro Limited.

This year, Katherine showed 4-year-old Metalic Pistol, by Metallic Cat, and 5-year-old Nighttiming, by One Time Pepto, successfully at the Augusta Futurity.

Charles Russell Bushaw showed Peptotoodie. The 9-year-old Peptotime daughter, with $160,564 in earnings from more than 40 limited age event finals. Charles Russell rode Peptotoodie to win last year’s NCHA Eastern Nationals Junior Youth championship and to place second in the 2017 NCHA World Finals Junior Youth, and was a 2017 NCHA Futurity Unlimited Amateur finalist riding Snappcat.

This is third year that Gavin Callahan and 8-year-old Johnny Reyngo, by Dual Rey, have been finalists in the Eastern Nationals. Last year the pair placed in the $15,000 Amateur finals, and the previous year they placed seventh in the Junior Youth. Gavin also placed sixth in the 2017 AQHA Congress Futurity 5/6 Classic Non-Pro on Hot Dona, and was a 2016 NYCHA Scholarship Junior Youth finalist on Flat Baroque.
