Rocky Davis, Valley View, Alberta, Canada, scored 216.5 points riding Redneck Creyzy on Wednesday to win the NCHA Futurity Unlimited Amateur semi-finals. Jacob Taurel, Whitesboro, Tex., had the next highest score with 215.5 points on V Eight Smooth Ichi, and Bella Anderson and Hardy Rogers tied for third and fourth with 215 points on Bobby Jack Cat and Way To Naughty, respectively.
Rocky Davis came into the Unlimited Amateur semi-finals off of wins on 4-year-old Mouse Ichi LTE $11,565 in the Arbuckle Mountain Amateur and Senior Amateur Finals, as well as a win on Monster Cat LTE $48,377 in the Canadian Supreme Classic Amateur Finals.
Davis, the NCHA earner of $144,251, was also a finalist with Redneck Creyzy in last week’s NCHA Limited Non-Pro Finals. Redneck Creyzy is by Dual Rey and out of Xquizit Cat LTE $13,435, by High Brow Cat.
Jacob Taurel was an NCHA Super Stakes (6th place) and an NCHA Derby Unlimited Amateur finalist this year riding 4-year-old Metallic Martinis LTE $14,566. The NCHA earner of $140,524, Taurel also placed fifth in the 2014 NCHA Futurity Unlimited Amateur riding One Rowdy Cat LTE $64,634. V Eight Smooth Ichi, by Smooth As A Cat, is out of Clementine Ichi, by Cat Ichi.
Bella Anderson, Victoria, Tex., and Bobby Jack Cat, by Cats Quixote Jack, won the Unlimited Amateur/Amateur go-round on Saturday, December 2, with 217 points. They also placed third, to earn $7,425, in the Amateur Finals on Tuesday, December 5.
Bella, the NCHA earner of $71,828, and her father, Steve Anderson, also both qualified for the Non-Pro Semi-Finals on December 7, Bella aboard Martina Jack, by Cats Quixote Jack, and Steve on Little Jo Cat, by High Brow Cat.
Hardy Rogers, Madill, Okla., is the NCHA earner of $220,764. He showed Questionable Past LTE $46,425 in both the 2017 NCHA Super Stakes Unlimited Amateur and the NCHA Derby Unlimited Amateur. He was also a 2017 NCHA Derby Unlimited Amateur finalist with Bet Hesa Baygun LTE $64,060, who Hardy showed as Reserve Unlimited Amateur Champion of the Brazos Bash.
Way To Naughty, by Dual Rey, is out of Joys Indian Pep LTE $127,244, by Hickorys Indian Pep. Joys Indian Pep, the dam of five NCHA money earners, was reserve champion of the 2007 NCHA Limited Non-Pro with Justin Cunningham, and reserve champion of the 2009 NCHA Classic Challenge Amateur Classic with Hardy Rogers.
