Glenn Barlow seized the day with 216 points, as the first rider to the first herd in the 2017 NCHA Futurity Unlimited Amateur/Amateur first go-round. Bella Anderson, riding Bobby Jack Cat in the second set, earned 217 points, the day’s high score and the top Amateur score. Barlow and his gelding Reyzer claimed the high mark among Unlimited Amateurs.
Bella Anderson, Victoria, Tex., also qualified earlier in the week for the Non-Pro Futurity Semi-Finals on Martina Jack. Both Bobby Jack Cat and Martina Jack are sired by Cats Quixote Jack LTE $276,696 and were bred by Bella’s family-owned ranch, Anderson Cattle Co.
Earlier this year, Bella, an NCHA Youth rider, won the Amateur championship of the NCHA Classic Challenge with The Reyl McCoy LTE $145,026, as well as the Non-Pro Cutting 4-Year-Old Amateur championship on Jackie A. The NCHA earner of $71,828, Bella was also an Unlimited Amateur finalist in the 2016 NCHA Futurity riding Reyl Purdy.
Glenn Barlow, Gillette, Wyo., placed fourth in the 2015 NCHA Futurity Non-Pro Limited riding Ferrarey LTE $95,035, a full sister to Reyzer. Both horses were bred by Barlow, by Dual Rey and out of Cats Good Intentions, by High Brow Cat. Barlow has earned money on Ferrarey as a finalist in eight 2017 limited age events, including a championship win in the Western States Fall Futurity Classic.
Regan Plendl, Kingsley, Iowa, also an NCHA Youth rider, showed Cats Lightning Rey to score 215 points, the second-highest score among Unlimited Amateurs and the third-highest score of the day. Regan and Cats Lightning Rey qualified for the Non-Pro Futurity Semi-Finals, as well.
The NCHA earner of $170,364, Regan placed sixth in the 2015 NCHA Futurity Amateur on MK Kenli LTE $34,296, and won the 2016 NCHA Super Stakes Amateur with the Smooth As A Cat daughter. In 2017, she has won four limited age 4-year-old championships – the Non-Pro and the Arbuckle Mountain Amateur Unlimited with Mr Metallic Rey LTE $90,040, and the Western States Fall Futurity Non-Pro and Non-Pro Stallion Stakes on Sunday Drive LTE $40,524.
