Paula Wood of Stephenville, Texas, marked a 219 Wednesday on homegrown Cool N Hot to lead the final day of the second round of Non-Pro competition at the NCHA Futurity. Wood, a Non-Pro Hall of Famer who has won the NCHA Futurity, the NCHA Super Stakes (twice) and the NCHA Derby (twice), had a cumulative score of 433.

In all, 61 contestants marked 426 or better to advance to the semi-finals.

Cool N Hot, is by freshman sire Hottish out of Donas Cool Cat, a High Brow Cat mare that earned $315,104 in Open and Non-Pro competition. Donas Cool Cat also produced Wood’s 2012 Non-Pro Futurity champion Donas Suen Boon, an earner of $398,000.

Teen-age Hall of Fame inductee Cade Shepard of Summerdale, Alabama put together scores of 216 and 219 on Bama Dawg for the high cumulative score of 435. Bama Dawg is by High Brow Cat out of MH San Tules Dually, making him a full brother to $351,000 earner Bamacat.

Two riders marked 433.5 for the second high cumulative score. They were Kylie Rice of Weatherford, Texas on Fadie Lou, by Woody Be Tuff, and Lindy Ashlock of Abilene, Texas on High Time Pepto, by One Time Pepto.

Three riders tied Paula Wood for the next highest score of 433. They were:

Jarrett Callahan of McConnels, South Carolina on Double Ur Bets (Bet Hesa Cat x FMR Double The Pepto)
Ryan Rapp of Weatherford, Texas on Manteca Moe (Hydrive Cat x Memorey)
Megan Miller of Poolville, Texas on Hey Boo Boo (Dual Smart Rey x Travs Scooter)

The Non-Pro semi-finals will be held Thursday, December 7.
