NYCHA Youth Scholarship

After setting the pace in the qualifying round with a 226, Madison Flynn and Cat Cat Man BlueMan Blue came back in the finals with a 223 for a two-point win over Emma Grace Rapp on Reyzin in the NYCHA Youth Scholarship Cutting Friday in Fort Worth’s Will Rogers Coliseum.

Flynn, an 11-year-old from Weatherford, Texas, is the daughter of Hall of Fame Rider Sean and Ashley Flynn. Sean won the 2012 NCHA Super Stakes Classic on Cat Man Blue, and he also showed Buzzted to the NCHA Derby championship in 2013.

For most of the year, Madison has been riding her own horse, Santana Gay, but she marked a 75 on Cat Man Blue when she teamed up with him at a weekend show in April.

Madison was a finalist last year in the Scholarship Cutting on Bowmans Cat, and she placed third in the Junior Youth the year before that at the NCHA Eastern National Championships on Herding Cats.

Owned by Lazy M Cattle Co., Cat Man Blue is a 10-year-old stallion by High Brow Cat out of $594,000 earner Quintan Blue. He was bred by Jim Vangilder and purchased for $210,000 at Vangilder’s Rock Creek Ranch Dispersal, presented by Western Bloodstock, in 2009. His first foals will be eligible for this year’s NCHA Futurity.

Emma Grace Rapp placed second in the Junior Scholarship Cutting with a 221 Reyzinon Reyzin, the horse her mother, Mary Ann Rapp, rode to be 2013 NCHA Non-Pro Horse of the Year. Rezyin was bred by Phil and Mary Ann Rapp by High Brow CD out of Miss Reycine. The NCHA Hall of Fame Horse has earned more than $411,000 and is owned by Gale Force Quarter Horses of Conway, South Carolina.

Emma Grace, 11, has two other reserve championships on her resume this year. She placed second in the Junior Youth at the NCHA Scottsdale National Championships on Swing Thru The Drive, and in the $2,000 Limited Rider finals at The Non-Pro Cutting on Teninas Smooth Cat.

Brody Magby, 11, of Wilburton, Oklahoma, finished third in the Junior Youth Scholarship Cutting with a 220, riding Little Moria Kittens, an EBR Kitty Hawk mare owned by Browne’s Bar XL Ranch.
