Unlimited Amateur riders Robert Tiemann, Pflugerville, Tex., and John Brengard, Robert TiemannParagould, Ark., tied with 219 points on Monday, July 24 to top the first day of 2017 NCHA Classic Challenge  Rios of Mercedes Unlimited Amateur go-round competition. Jimmy Baros, Blanco, Tex., was the high-scoring Amateur contender, with 218 points

Tiemann, who scored 219 points on Miss Aristolcrat, also earned 218 points riding Hot Chicks 05. Marvin Marmande, Theriot, La., also showing as an Unlimited Amateur, scored 218 points on Tallic Cat.

Robert Tiemann, the NCHA earner of $234,237, purchased Miss Aristolcrat as a 3-year-old, in the 2015 Western Bloodstock, Ltd. NCHA Summer Spectacular Sale. The Boon A Little daughter, lifetime earner of $58,130, was an Open finalist under Jonathon Rogers in the 2015 NCHA Futurity and placed in four 2016 Open limited age events. Hot Chick 05 LTE $18,168, by Spots Hot, also placed in 2016 Open limited age events under Rogers and earned money under Tiemann, as a second go-round contender in the 2017 NCHA Super Stakes Classic Unlimited Amateur.

Marvin Marmande, the NCHA earner of $176,938, showed Tallic Cat LTE $42,040, as an Unlimited Amateur finalist in the 2016 NCHA Classic Challenge. Marmande bred the 6-year-old Metallic Cat daughter out of Willys Tivio Dell LTE $84,608, a Doc N Willy daughter that he purchased at the 2002 Western Bloodstock NCHA Futurity Sale.

John Brengard purchased Sweet Lil Amanda as a 2-year-old in the 2013 John BrengardWestern Bloodstock NCHA Futurity Sale. The High Brow CD daughter, earner of $243,166, was an Open finalist with Matt Miller in the 2014 NCHA Futurity and has since won or placed with Miller in 20 major events and carried Brengard as an Unlimited Amateur finalist in six events, including as champion of the 2017 Cattlemen’s Derby 5/6 Unlimited Amateur finals.

Brengard, the NCHA earner of $181,846, was champion of the 2014 NCHA Classic Challenge Unlimited Amateur with Smooth As A Huntress LTE $90,227; 2015 NCHA Classic Challenge Amateur champion on SDP Hydriven Hicapoo LTE $135,289; and 2017 Pacific Coast Derby 5/6 Unlimited Amateur champion on SDP Hicapoo Cat $73,350.

Jimmy Baros, the NCHA earner of $72,127, showed Two Time Dual LTE Jimmy Baros$103,380, the Dual Rey gelding who carried him to earn four championships and four reserves, including, most recently, the 2017 NCHA Super Stakes Classic Unlimited Amateur, Unlimited Amateur  Senior, and Amateur championships. Grant Setnicka also showed Two Time Dual for Baros as a sixth-placed finalist in the 2016 NCHA Derby Open and as Open Gelding reserve champion of the 2017 Cattlemen’s Derby.
