Morgan Cromer, riding Bea Pure Cat, and Monty Buntin, on Starlights Lil Cat, each scored 223 points to tie as co-champions of the 2016 NCHA Scottsdale Nationals. Gavin Jordan placed third with 220.5 points aboard CR Kittys Gotta Gun.
Bea Pure Cat LTE $121,572, an 8-year-old gelded son of High Brow Cat, is owned by Jill and William Roth, Paso Robles, Calif. Jill Roth showed the full brother to 2012 NCHA Futurity Open champion He Bea Cat LTE $356,219 as the 2016 Mercuria NCHA World Finals $25,000 Novice Non-Pro champion and World Champion. Roth and Bea Pure Cat also won the 2015 Pacific Coast 5/6 Amateur Unlimited Gelding and the 5/6 Amateur Unlimited Senior divisions.
Morgan Cromer, an NCHA Hall of Fame Rider with earnings of $2,258,002, also placed with CR Kittys Gotta Gun in the 2016 Scottsdale Nationals Open Finals, as well as on six other horses, three each, in the $5,000 Novice and $25,000 Novice Finals.
Starlights Lil Cat and Monty Buntin were Open co-champs.
Starlights Lil Cat LTE $74,817 is owned by Steven and Stacy Morgan, Lincoln, Calif. Buntin also showed the 7-year-old daughter of WR This Cats Smart as champion of the 2016 Scottsdale Nationals $25,000 division and a finalist in the $5,000 Novice division.
Buntin, the NCHA earner of $589,917, also placed with Juan Catty Chica in the 2016 Scottsdale Nationals Open Finals, as well as in the $5,000 Novice division, and showed Wild Kate in the finals of the $5,000 Novice and I Got My Smooth On in the $25,000 Novice Finals.
