Quinn Collins and Metallicity marked 221

Quinn Collins, Washington, Tex., scored 221 points aboard Metallicity, by Metallic Cat, on Monday, the first day of Lucas Oil NCHA Super Stakes Non-Pro/Limited Non-Pro go-round competition.

Bill Cowan, Ardmore, Okla, riding Catty Bluz, by Catty Hawk, and Greg Coalson, Weatherford, Tex., showing Juana Bet, by Bet Hesa Cat, tied with 219 points, the day’s second highest score. Carol Ward, Rancho Murieta, Calif, earned 218.5 points on Crafty With Cows, by High Brow CD.

Metallicity LTE $10,450 was bred by Quinn Collins’ parents, Patrick and Laura Collins, Lincoln, Ill., who also bred and own 2006 and 2011 NCHA Futurity champions, Oh Cay Felix LTE $466,878 and Oh Miss Caroline LTE $278,700. Oh Miss Caroline was named in honor of Quinn’s wife, Caroline. Oh Cay Felix, Oh Miss Caroline and Metallicity were all trained by Craig Thompson, who also showed both Futurity champions.

Quinn Collins, who began showing with his father and his brothers, Patrick and Lach, as a youth, has NCHA earnings of $49,591, primarily earned in weekend shows. In 2000, when he was 16, Quinn was NCHA Eastern Nationals Amateur reserve champion riding Oh Cay Shorty, dam of Oh Cay Felix and Oh Miss Caroline.

Catty Bluz LTE $20,292 was bred by Cowan Ranch Inc., home of Bill and Michelle Cowan, and Catty Hawk, sire of Catty Bluz. Bill Cowan, NCHA Non-Pro Hall of Fame earner of $705,999, showed Catty Hawk LTE $239,044 to win the 2008 NCHA Futurity Limited Non-Pro.

Cowan showed Catty Bluz to win the 2017 Abilene Spectacular Non-Pro Novice, Non-Pro Gelding and place third in the Non-Pro Finals. Cowan also won the won the Abilene Spectacular Non-Pro 5/6 Classic on Shes Full Of Hope LTE $75,949 and placed fourth on Billies Catty $136,131, who he showed as a finalist in the 2017 NCHA Super Stakes Classic Non-Pro.

Juana Bet is a homebred, as well. Greg Coalson bred her dam and her granddam, Quejanamia, who he showed as reserve champion of the 1991 NCHA Classic Non-Pro. Quejanamia is the dam of eight money earners of $690,721, seven of which were trained and shown by Coalson, including Quejanapep LTE $200,060, reserve champion 1999 NCHA Futurity Non-Pro; Mia Browbeater LTE $61,914, reserve champion of the 2012 NCHA Futurity Non-Pro; and Quejanaisalena LTE $329,571.

Greg Coalson is the NCHA Non-Pro Hall of Fame earner of $1,649,756.

Crafty With Cows LTE $166,386 was shown by R.L. Chartier to place third in the NCHA Futurity and was one of the top qualifiers for this coming Saturday’s 2017 NCHA Super Stakes Open with Chartier. Carol Ward, the NCHA Non-Pro Hall of Fame earner of $775,974, bred Crafty With Cows out of Miss Haulin Hickory, who Ward showed as champion of the 2002 Abilene Spectacular Amateur and of the 2002 Augusta Futurity Non-Pro Limited.

Miss Haulin Hickory is the dam of five NCHA earners of $419,052, including Crafy With Cows’ half-sister Lil Dulce Lu LTE $224,621.
