GIL PORTER: FEBRUARY 22, 1939 – MAY 30, 2021
Gil Porter of Silver Springs, Maryland passed away on May 30, 2021. Porter had been an active member in the National Cutting Horse Association since joining in 1964.
A competitive Non-Pro rider, Porter was inducted into the NCHA Non-Pro Riders Hall of Fame in 1979. At the end of his show career, Porter had earned over $655,000 in lifetime earnings. He finished top 10 in the NCHA Non-Pro standings multiple times including 1967, 1978, 1979, 1981 and 1983.
Also active in limited age event competition, Porter showed War China to win the 1976 NCHA Maturity, sharing the title with Chester Brittain.
Porter was active in the Association on multiple sides of the competition arena. He was an NCHA and American Quarter Horse Association judge, judging major events such as the NCHA World Championship Futurity.
