Catolena Cashin In, shown by Tarin Rice for Joel Colgrove, Boligee, Ala., scored 226.5 points to win The Ike Open Derby and $27,000, on Tuesday, February 2, in West Monroe, La. It was a first win for the Reyzin The Cash son, who came into the show with $26,555 earned as an Open finalist in the 2020 NCHA Futurity.
All Spice, the 2020 NCHA Futurity Open champion, sired by Once In A Blu Boon and owned by the Hill/Holmes Partnership, Glen Rose, Tex., earned $23,000 as The Ike reserve champion with 223.5 points under Adan Banuelos, while Spots Hottist, sired by Spots Hot and owned by Rocking P Ranch, Fort Worth, Tex., placed third with 223 points under Jesse Lennox, for $19,203.
Catolena Cashin In qualified for The Ike Derby 17-horse finals with the top cumulative score of 444.5 points, including 224 points earned as the high-scoring horse from the second go-round. Baby Talk LTE $99,037, a Smooth Talkin Style daughter owned by Barker Ranch, Madill, Okla., and shown by Lloyd Cox, tied Reyzin Nu Desires LTE $19, 074, owned and bred by Blakely Colgrove Simoneaux, with 441 points under Matt Miller, the second-highest cumulative score.
Catolena Cash In, Reyzin Nu Desires, and Reyzin Amanda, fourth-placed with 222 points in the Ike Derby finals under owner Matt Miller, are all from the first crop of Reyzin The Cash. Smooth Talkin Style, the sire of Baby Talk (16th), 2021 Abilene Spectacular reserve champion Side Chic (7/8) and Dreamy Martini (7/8), was the only other stallion to sire three of the Derby finalists.
Bred by Joel Colgrove, Catolena Cashin In is out of Dual Catolena LTE $37,917, a full brother to Cats Dual Lena LTE $97,174, among earners of $367,852 out of DPS Lenas Lucinda LTE $70,987, by Dual Pep.
All Spice LTE $246,880 is a full sister to Badboonarising LTE $318,279, who was shown by Adan Banuelos as reserve champion of the 2018 NCHA Futurity. Out of the High Brow Cat daughter Show Biz Kitty, All Spice and Badboonarising are also half-siblings to Rollz Royce LTE $348,383, by Dual Smart Rey, and SS Blacks Lil Kitty LTE $187,137, by Blue Bayou Boon.
Bugattii LTE $200,223, the 2020 NCHA Futurity Open reserve champion under Wesley Galyean, won $2,470 for first in the Ike Derby Open Gelding division. Owned and bred by SMF Cutting Horses, Aspen, Colo., Bugattii scored 215 points to also place 10th and earn $3,941 in the Ike Derby.
The Ike Derby and Classic continues through Sunday, February 7.
